I wasn't sure if I would like AOC, but I definitely do. She gets it. And she's unashamed of her youth and energy and gender.
The Mouth
(3,416 posts)I think a lot of politicians - including many I deeply respect and agree with, are like the WW1 generals still fighting the Napoleonic wars.
One *quick* deadly tweet is better (more effective) , in 2019, than the kind of calm, measured response our previous leaders did so well. President Obama and Secretary Clinton took hours, even days, to respond to an attack; that doesn't work any more. Trump won - as much as anything - by dominating the news cycle and staying on the attack: somebody would say something bad (true) about him and within minutes he has a response. It might not make sense, it might be a blatant lie, but it regained the tempo and seized the initiative, which was/is more important. AOC fights that way, too.

(4,198 posts)They're already trying to paint her as stupid and "disrespectful," so best not give them even the tiniest bit of ammunition. They are hypocrites and have no shame, so no matter how many times the magat-in-chief misspells his own wife's name, or falls asleep while typing on the toilet, they will point to this one tweet as equivalent and will pardon him and themselves for their towering ignorance.

I cringed a bit at the misspelling in the tweet though.

(606 posts)..and I love her, but I kind a fear for her too. There are a lot of good ol' boys (and girls) that have been there for a long, long time (too long?) that are getting the "red ass" from her and will be there, "waiting in the tall grass" as they say, looking to fuck her up at the first sign of a stumble. Remember Al Frankin!

(33,083 posts)If she is in Washington and does not know how to spell the Russell Senate Office building, or does not know how to proofread her tweets, she is not all that wonderful.
I am far more impressed with the letter our Speaker of the House sent to Trump regarding the SOTU.
Is all this breathless, giddy praise of a freshman legislator who has not done anything yet designed to detract from Speaker Pelosi's masterful move? I hope not.

(36,341 posts)A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that, if the 2020 presidential race was between Trump and Ocasio-Cortez, 43% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for Trump, while 40% would vote for Ocasio-Cortez. A sizable 17% are undecided.
