Michelle Obama caught a lot of flack a decade ago when she said she was " proud of her

country for the first time in her adult life."

I have been ashamed of my "government" and 40% of my fellow citizens since November, 2016.

with what she said because I DO understand the context and I understand her experience as much as is possible for an aging white guy. My apologies if my OP left that in doubt.
