(11,001 posts)that there are so many prudes and people with no sense of humor on DU these days.
This is an actual story in the news about a Russian band called Pussy Riot that dissed Putin and ended up in the Gulag.
It is called humor. Lighten up!
MineralMan
(146,287 posts)Your intent with this is clear. I think I won't lighten up, if you don't mind.

(146,287 posts)William Jefferson Clinton left office with a balanced budget. He was a philanderer. JFK was also a philanderer. Power begets such behavior, sad to say.
That does not make this kind of crap OK. The Pussy Riot case in Russia is worthy of discussion. This is not a discussion. It is a Lounge act.
You disagree? Fine. That's DU for you. We all get to voice our opinions.
Electric Monk
(13,869 posts)/just sayin...
MineralMan
(146,287 posts)I stated an opinion here. I have not posted on that other site since 2006. It is now near the end of 2012. Relevance matters. I've made no secret of that information, in any case. It is not relevant to this thread. However, I voted for Bill Clinton both times he ran. I have never voted for a Republican. Ever.
You appear to be trying to create a diversion to my criticism of the OP. Since you did not post the OP, perhaps I will wait to hear from the person who wrote it.

MineralMan has been here a long time, I've never seen him do or say anything freeperish.
Even if he did, at an earlier date, belong to free republic, you tie it around his neck, as if people aren't allowed to change. Once a Republican, always a Republican. People can, and do, change. ( Not saying he even did, he could have just been f*cking with them, from what it sounds like to me)
It really doesn't reflect well on you, or this board.

(154,021 posts)they were convicted of ... how did the Russians phrase it? Oh yes, being a threat to the social order three days ago, and given 24 months in the slammer, for taking over the Moscow Cathedral after Putin "won."
Suffice it to say the first time I heard Pussy Riot in a serious news story, I had a double take.

So fitting for DU3.

(146,287 posts)Perfect civil disobedience. They were willing to take the chance of retribution, and seem to be embracing it.
We could all learn. This thread is ugly, and minimizes their action. Not a good showing from a progressive forum.
redqueen
(115,103 posts)yet they have hardly any idea what Pussy Riot is.
It's not a band. It's a group of over ten women. The media shares the blame I guess, for not bothering to report the story. But seeing this kind of crap and knowing most people don't care all that much about the movement... it's just really annoying.
And the whole thing reminds me of "Ow, My Balls!"... that level of 'humor'.
Pharaoh

(3,414 posts)Unlike the late Ms Phyllis Diller, who was a MASTER of the self-depricating humor. And she was absolutely hilarious! If you are unfamiliar with her work, take a look. And I LOL at that image! And it in no way diminishes my respect for President Clinton, or my support of Pussy Riot, or anyone unjustly imprisioned by ANY state.

(9,137 posts)of the Russian case is to make *serious* heads of states and news persons to repeat the words 'Pussy Riot' over and over and to show the video of Punk Anarchy with Attitude many many times in all homes with TV.

(2,442 posts)Take away the alert button, I am tired of people trying to censor DU posts.
Can someone post what the percentage of "hide" vs. leave it" for the entire DU. I would like to see if this daily alerting is getting out of hand. I have been on a jury at least 20 times this month alone, and every time it was a majority "leave it".
If you are offended by internet posts.. then stay off the internet.
Pharaoh
(8,209 posts)leave it. But your right, plenty of whiners out there with no sense of humor whatsoever.
Some of them hover around and can't wait to hit the alert button, they seem to get some kind of thrill out of it

(9,137 posts)I prefer self-governance to authoritarian hierarchies and this is if not anything else, a worthy social experiment.
Instead or taking away alert button, there should be some kind of sanction for over use of it with just 'leave it' decisions coming back. Some gradual scale of sanctions, e.g. being able to use alert only once a day, then once a week. Perhaps even temporary ban if all you ever got after all limitations was still just 'leave it' decisions.
