Trump's approval at 34% in new AP/NORC poll

Overall, 34 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance in a survey conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. That’s down from 42 percent a month earlier and nears the lowest mark of his two-year presidency. The president’s approval among Republicans remains close to 80 percent, but his standing with independents is among its lowest points of his time in office.

Sixty percent of Americans say Trump bears a great deal of responsibility for the shutdown. About a third place the same amount of blame on congressional Democrats (31 percent) or Republicans (36 percent).

Sixty-five percent of Americans, including 86 percent of Democrats, 69 percent of independents and 33 percent of Republicans, call the shutdown a major problem.

Trump may be popular overall with Republicans, but a sizable share holds him responsible for the current situation. Almost 3 in 10 Republicans think Trump bears a great deal of responsibility, while 73 percent of his party says he’s at least partly responsible.

I am now trying to think of what he would have to do to make them fall out of love with him.

Shameful. But at the rate he is going he will hurt each and every one of his MAGA Hat wearing minions. And I hope it makes THEIR stomachs hurt.

Unfathomably bad. It's no wonder the 2008 election was such a massacre.

According to Gallop from Nov 2016 to Nov '17, there was a 5% drop in self identifying republicans. The party is getting smaller. The same poll said Democrats remained steady at 44%. Republicans dropped from 42% to 37%. Soon only the base will remain, but again his approval will remain steady with them.

That rating is not the fault of tv; television "news" has done all it can to promote bothsides.

if we're looking at polls, that Mitch McConnell's approval numbers are completely in the toilet. Even in Kentucky. If the Dems can come up with a really good person to run against him, he might be vulnerable.

But I think his plan is to trash things to the best of his ability, pack the courts with toxic judges, and get outta town. Not run again.

The one thing that matters to the Trumpster are the poll numbers. He's sinking during this battle and you know it's going to drive him wild. No speech, no backhand comments about the Democratic Party in general or Nancy Pelosi specifically has changed the trajectory of those numbers. He's losing the 'base' he has counted on and pandered to.

The Shutdown, The Wall is the hill he decided to die on. And that's exactly what is happening--a death spiral. Keep it up and he'll take the entire Republican Party with him.

A glorious dream in the making is coming home, perching in the real world.

Nancy knows he will. She took his big speech from him and he lives and breathes for the polls. All of the polls are trending down, he cannot handle that.
