I think an emergency declaration is forthcoming.

Because he has no other way out.

The vote in the Senate today with the Democratic proposal getting more votes than his plan was the final straw. A majority in both houses support his opponent’s plan.

The business lobby must be deluging republican Senators with complaints and he governs by polls as much as hate. And his are tanking.

Of course he know it will be tied up in court till a Democratic President rescinds it. But he hopes it will mollify his base.

His f’ing Wall was never going to get built. But the rubes believe it.

I thought the GOP had avoided that, but now it appears to be their only way out. It might even allow GOP senators to object to the act without objecting to the goal.

If if his emergency declaration falls short, they can tell their racist base they did everything they could to keep non Whites out of the country.

Trump doesn't give a crap about immigration. His own golf course hires illegal immigrants and gets them papers. It's all about trying to preserve himself politically.

It puts off any real action for a few years because of court cases. Congress doesn't actually have to pass funding. And it lets Trump say he "did something" and move on. It even lets the democrats pass multiple bills to try to stop him that never get through the Senate.

from Bush's 2006 legislation to build a fence.

There's no way this National Emergency is going to make it's way through the courts and build the wall even if Trump won in 2020. They do not own all the land to build it on.

It's all about Trump and the GOP saving their own political ass with bogus nonsense at the expense of the safety of Americans and the expense of the well being of Federal workers without pay.

34 days to declare an emergency would scream dreliction of duty.

They're trying to figure a way to cave without it being as obvious as it was last night on the SOTU.

That cave was the first chink in trump's armor. Now he's just trying to figure out how to get out of the mess he created.

I believe that will just be another bullet point on the Articles of Impeachment. He'd be dumb to do it but that hasn't stopped him to date.

Declaring an emergency will perk up his base, because they're ill-informed and reactionary.

Discovering that it is being blocked in the courts will enliven the base and give them a straw boogie man. The liberal courts.

Trump doesn't give a flying fuck about this Wall. He simply cannot lose his base, not now, not with Mueller and the House breathing down his neck.

So I agree, declaring a national emergency will surely crash and burn, but Trump won't care, as long as his base feels victimized again.

Lifetime appointments allow some people to have clear minds. There are plenty of partisan hacks on the court but that isn't the majority conservative or liberal.

I wouldn't be surprised if Roberts, Kavanaugh, Alito and Gorsuch didn't side with him on this. They would need to do mental gymnastics in 2 years if the roles are reversed and his polling sucks right now.

so should be good for however many...and hey, some of our likely do-whatevers are more legitimately "emergencies" than anything at our Southern border--healthcare, climate change, gun control, take your pick.
