This article is so good I don't know where to start.
Let's begin with her alleged opposition to the bloody war in Yemen while supporting India's Modi at the same time:
On the one hand, she condemns the Saudi-U.S. led coalition as complicit in a genocidal war, but she welcomes Indias Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been called the "man with a massacre on his hands" with open arms.
Let's continue with what her aunt says about her:
Her own aunt, Caroline Sinavaiana Gabbard, has noted her discomfort with this mixed bag of endorsements, in low-key language: Gabbard "has a notably mixed voting record, and associations that veer from certain progressive causes to the apparent courting of strongmen such as Narendra Modi, Bashar al-Assad, and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi (not to mention Trump) - this zigzagging path through positions is vexing."
Let's continue with Russia's YouTube promotion of Gabbard:
And here's Steve Bannon:
Bannon was so impressed with Gabbard as a potential ally that as he brokered a meeting between her and the newly-installed President Donald Trump. Tulsi jumped at the opportunity: in her own words, "I walked out thinking that there may be some opportunity to work with this administration to shift our foreign policy in a more positive, less destructive direction."

(648 posts)That makes us uncomfortable.
And she can harm the party and our future nominee even if she doesn't win.

(109,425 posts)She is much more conservative than her state.
So I don't think we should be ignoring her.

Yup... how very Jill Steinian of you, Tulsi.

(1,353 posts)Has anything to do with the politics of a country she knows jack shit about? She's money grubbing from well settled Indian people. That's it. Indians don't give a crap about her. She's one of those oddities, the white American Hare Krishnas that cosplay in Desi clothes while butchering Sanskrit. Their leader insisted that his flock was not Hindu.

(46,154 posts)Tulsis father was born in Fagatogo, American Samoa. Both of Tulsis paternal grandparents were of Samoan and European heritage. Her paternal grandfather was of about one quarter Samoan descent, and her paternal grandmother was of possibly as much as seven eighths Samoan ancestry.
snip
She is around a quarter (25%) or so Samoan or approximately 17 to 250 times more Samoan than Elizabeth Warren is Native American (approx 1.5% to 0.1% depending if her Native American ancestor was 6,7,8,9, or 10 generations back).
I myself am hyper-miscegenated (Sub-Saharan black African, Scottish, English, Chinese, Sephardic Jewish, Portuguese, Lebanese) with probably a quarter of that being black African, and it shows quite obviously, as does the Chinese.
Here is her grandmother on her fathers side, Aknesis Agnes.
Here is Aknesis Agnes husband's (so the other side of her father's bloodline) mother, Carrie (Bartley) Gabbard
So, no, Tulsi is not some white woman trying to pass off some teenie, tiny part Samoan heritage.
I would never vote for her in the primaries but I will not let people be racially slandered. Not cool at all.

(27,689 posts)And they belong to a Hare Krishnaish cult -- she is a teeny bit American Samoan from her Dad, but he is also mostly white. You are 100% correct. And, she still is under Chris Butler's commands.

(1,353 posts)label of Hindu, and Hindus do not refer to ourselves as "practicing" because that is not how Hindu philosophy works.
She's using her "Krishna consciousness" group and her looks (she looks vaguely Indian if you don't look too closely), and her name to market herself. The Indian community is well settled and has money.

(7,142 posts)I used to blog at my right wing local web site in central Pa. until I got thrown out. I saw a lot of posts from Haaretz from my right wing friends. I clicked on the provided link and found a lot of nothing.
I don't know squat about her Hindu nationalist relationships to comment about this.
I do agree with her strongly that we need to stop killing innocent civilians in Yemen.
Ah yes, she served in the military so she has a better idea of what is going on in Syria than most politicians. She met with a butcher, Assad. She feels that we shouldn't have gotten involved in Syria's civil war, I agree. Saddam Hussein was a terrible butcher too but that doesn't make our invasion into Iraq defensible.
I don't believe that Assad gassed his own people, I believe it was a false flag operation to get the U.S. involved, just like the WMD stories got us involved in Iraq.
I don't know if I would vote for Tulsi in the primary, but I do know that there is a concentrated effort from the left and right to destroy her. We need someone who is tough as nails to run in 2020. There is no doubt in my mind that she fits that bill. I need to investigate her more just because of the way that so many are attacking her.
Maybe you are right about her Yosemito, but you need a better link to make your points.

(1,353 posts)India recognizes Kamala as an NRI (non resident Indian, i.e. one of our own), her visits to her family in Chennai, her actual name and her growing up with Hindu values the way they're actually practices by Hindus. It's a pluralistic, tolerant way of life that doesn't require "practice", it"s just how you live your life. Most of us don't need or have "gurus", to tell us how to be decent people.
