So many posts about how this Democrat is supposed to have maligned that Democrat, and how this candidate's supporters think that those other candidate's supporters have cooties and dire predictions about elect-ability and like-ability and rockabilly----
Guess it must be time for the official DU kick off of the official 2020 presidential election primary.
So here, presented for your consideration, two Democrats that even the meanest among us can not dislike. Two (potential) candidates who have not announced their candidacy so we do not have to worry that we will kneecap the nominee in the primary. Two candidates who are volunteering themselves as lightening rods for all that negativity that seems to be brewing somewhere ( I wonder where).
I love Al Franken, the man who made the Mueller investigation possible.
I love Beto, the man with so much support in Texas that many people have kept up their Beto yard signs.
Let the Bull Moose in Heat races begin!
(Note: Hunter S. Thompson likened Democratic primary presidential candidates to a bull moose in heat)

(3,473 posts)It wouldn't be wise to have him on the ticket as President or VP until after he's cleared his name. It would become a distraction ... and we can't afford that.

(1,533 posts)Must have been pretty serious stuff they way they chased after him and, oh wait, as soon Roger Stone and people wanting him out of the way got what they wanted, poof...

(3,473 posts)But then again, Franken is now a private citizen and the national news has lost interest in him. If the accusations had disappeared or turn out to be false or at a minimum misleading, I would expect it would get some coverage with someone like Rachael Maddow.
But the moment he moves back into the national spotlight, you can be certain if the accusations haven't been cleared or explained sufficiently, the national media will pick up where they left off. And until he clears himself of the accusations, we don't need that sideshow in a Presidential Primary or General Election. When he has ... I would be happy to see him run for anything he wants.

(1,533 posts)Roger Stone is now too busy to bother, others have campaigns to run, the "anonymous" accusers would have have to step into the spotlight. The ones that did bother to step up were discredited.
I doubt he would run, but the crap that came out was bullshit and most of us know it.

(3,473 posts)Franken apologized to Leeann Tweeden and asked for an investigation, she was not discredited. He stated "I certainly don't remember the rehearsal for the skit the same way, but I send my sincerest apologies." and "As to the photo [of him mock grabbing her breasts] it was clearly intended to be funny but wasn't. I shouldn't have done it."
Others, he hasn't even responded to; he's stated he doesn't remember it; or he doesn't remember it that way and that he wanted it investigated.
That doesn't sound like crap or bullshit and it certainly doesn't sound like all of it was discredited.
The one thing that this Franken incident has proven, left wing partisans can be no better than right wing partisans. When something happens on their own side of the aisle, they'll come up with excuses why it's ok (or at least not so bad), they'll deny it or they'll claim their person has a right to clear themselves, which of course just delays things. But when something happens on the other side of the aisle, that courtesy is never afforded that other person.

(1,533 posts)The ones on the left want their pet candidate to get the nod, the ones on the right are just fearful of what he did to conservatives in hearings.

(7,398 posts)interest in running. Obviously it is still early. I'm not sure he wants to put his family through what will be thrown at him. I would certainly consider him if he chose to run.
As for Beto, he is going to be around for a while. He does seem to have an it factor and charisma.

(1,533 posts)There will never be a President - Vice President team from the same state unless the get rid of an arcane Electoral College rule.
"The electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves."
So if you have a team from the same state, they can not get the Electoral College votes from their home state. Might not make that much of a difference if you are from, say, Wyoming, but why you you spot your opponents even 3 votes out of 538?
