trumP touts proposed Bible literacy classes in state schools

USA Today reported that the proposals would require or encourage public schools to offer elective classes on the Bible, with a focus on its historical significance.

Critics of the measures have argued that they could violate the constitutional separation between church and state, USA Today reported.

Trump has courted the support of evangelical leaders, with many defending him despite criticism over his rhetoric toward immigrants and on the campaign trail.

MF45 what is the first bible verse you learned. Haven't been to church in years, but I still remember the first verse I was taught.

5. If it's elective and 100% ONLY about historical significance, I guess it's not THAT egregious ...

Some kids will take the course cause they think it'll be easy, but they'll learn nothing ... and care even less.

But nobody should fool themselves that that is what he is asking for.

12. Ah, yes ... fair point! Either that, or there should be similar courses offered on Islam, Judaism ..

And all other religions.

Absent that, that's a good argument against it, per the Constitution!

Trump would have known this if he'd ever been to one.

Matthew 25:35-40 English Standard Version (ESV)

35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’

Catholics in the US use a different translation than Protestants (it includes some books the King James version omits), and Jews just use the Old Testament.

There are some good arguments that can be made for teaching the King James bible in a literature curriculum as a means for understanding British and American literature, particularly pre-twentieth century, but somehow I don't think that's what Trump meant.
