General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI'll ask this now: if Mueller completes and delivers his report and Whitaker or Barr do not
share it in its entirety with the American public (excepting only truly CLASSIFIED information), what are we going to do? I will not "pollute" the discussion with my suggestions.
How will we respond?

(3,344 posts)They won't be able to keep it from Congress.
And Mueller will NOT be done soon. Count on it.

BTW, I don't believe Whittaker's comment for a moment. He's speaking to an audience of one. I highly doubt he's even being fully briefed. For one thing, Mueller's grand jury just got extended for six months.

BTW, I'd be fully glad to debate this if you will lose the condescending attitude.

(102,337 posts)It has become Senate CUSTOM to defer to the Majority Leader, BUT 51 Senators can STILL force a vote.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/27/opinion/mitch-mcconnell-mueller-bill.html
And yet the bill will not pass will not even get a vote because of the obstinacy of McConnell.
Or at least thats the story that you may have read in virtually every media outlet yesterday. The full truth is a bit different.
McConnell does not have the power to block a bill from being voted on. No senator does, not even the majority leader. Any senator can propose that a bill receive a vote. And if 51 senators want it to receive a vote, they can ensure that it does. Senate custom, however, has become that senators from both parties forfeit that power to the majority leader: The majority leader now decides what does and doesnt get a vote.
Further, this convention to defer to the Senate majority leader can be negated and replaced by majority vote-- Senate rules and conventions can and have been changed in the past. Even McConnell could be voted out by mere majority of R's demanding a vote/new election.
HOWEVER, and this is the point. A bill doesn't even have to pass the Senate to send a message--evidence the effect the House-passed bill to reopen government sans wall funding and the fact it got more votes in the Senate (including R votes) than the alternate R version. How fast after seeing that R's were breaking ranks did it take for Trump to fold? Hours!

Theres a strong possibility Mueller will speak via further indictments.
