Trump likes to give the media a bone to chase while he does his dirty work. What better bone then a war?

1. Most Americans couldn't find Venezuela on a map and won't care much.

Remember the Grenada "war" of 1983? I'll bet most people don't, or at least don't remember the supposed reasons for it.

Anyway, they are trying to signal to the Venezuelan generals that they're willing to do something.

And that means that the generals hands are going to be tied if there is an internal coup (actual internal military insurgency). If the generals respond to it, then the US starts droning the hell out of them and the rest of the fighters will turn very quickly.
