It appears he’s running to represent the tax interests of himself and other wealthy people like himself. By running as an independent and holding some socially liberal beliefs, he thinks he can siphon off enough votes from moderates who would otherwise vote for the Democrat, to prevent the Democrat from winning. Of course he’s supported by other wealthy people, who own and run the media, so he gets a lot of airtime.
It’s always about the money.
