Muellers next indictment will tie together the Russians, WikiLeaks and the top of the Trump campaign
................
The next arrest and indictment youre going to see from Mueller will be his biggest yet. One morning in the not too distant future, hes going to sweep up everyone remaining who was associated with using the Democratic Party emails stolen by the Russians. Julian Assange will be indicted. So will Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner. Roger Stone will probably face a superseding indictment along with the others for defrauding the United States by conspiring with WikiLeaks and the Russian intelligence service, the GRU, to steal Democratic Party campaign documents and use them to interfere with the American presidential election of 2016, the same charge he made against the Russians. Mueller will probably follow Justice Department guidelines and the example set by Special Prosecutor Leon Jaworski in Watergate. He will probably not indict the president, but he will name him as an unindicted co-conspirator, just as Richard Nixon was in Watergate.
Its going to be a jaw-dropping arrest and indictment because it has to be. Mueller can no longer issue indictments piecemeal and get guilty pleas or convictions one by one. This time, he must lay out a case that Trump and his campaign officials committed crimes that are so egregious, it will be impossible for the congress to fail to protect him from being fired. If Mueller were to indict Kushner alone, or Trump Jr. alone, it would be too easy for Trump to feign outrage and fire him. Thats why Muellers next move will be his last, and it will be the big one, sweeping up everyone who is left at once.
Muellers indictment of the Republican bad boy and former Trump political adviser Roger Stone was less of an allegation that Stone committed crimes like lying to the congress and tampering with a witness, than it was the exercise of an elaborate search warrant for all of Stones houses and offices. Mueller wanted Stones electronic devices, because he needs to confirm what he already knows about Stones connections to WikiLeaks. He gained this knowledge from the National Security Agency and the CIA, both of which have been involved in the Russia investigation in the background.

Some things they establish - like there is significantly more to come.
So it is a mix of reason from the facts and from that, conjecture on where it will go

(19,186 posts)Even "someone who's familiar with the Mueller investigation" would be too vague for print, and besides, no one connected with the Mueller investigation tips off reporters (or at least would never be referred to as a "deep background" tipster).
Mueller runs a very tight ship. Leaks are not tolerated, unlike the Trump administration.

(11,613 posts)I understand that he's not going to name sources, but my point is there doesn't seem to be any, just conjecture.

Bonus: any and all obstruction issues will reinforce the link between trumpers and Russians (step 3).
Many have known this is how you prosecute things like RICO cases, but it shouldn't be reported as gospel until it happens.
Since we've already done steps 1&2, we are only assuming step 3 is pending.
That said, I hope something happens this Friday, but a birdie mentioned mid February.

(7,402 posts)I certainly hope so.
That would open the door for Mueller to charge Trump by name for very high crimes. But that is a lot to expect, especially in a single move so I am looking for two more rounds of indictments rather than a single, sweeping indictment Salon projects.

(16,113 posts)With a predetermined outline of what the final outcome will be (Mueller nails Trump) and then fills in the pieces of what needs to happen to make that work. Its laid out like a news story, but its basically an opinion piece, which is salon in a nutshell.

(5,268 posts)so we can expect a Mueller indictment including all the Trump campaign conspirators in the hacking and Wikileaks releases. Unfortunately though it will probably take several more months for Mueller's team to wrap it all up since there are outstanding subpoenas and interviews left, plus sifting through the trove of Stone material.

(3,428 posts)in the Stone case for more time to bring the case to trial because of the voluminous material that was seized last Friday.
If the judge grants Mueller more time, assuming that Stone waives his right to a speedy trial, it could take months before the Stone case is resolved.
Of course, Stone could decide to cooperate with Mueller which would speed things up considerably.
