(14,642 posts)However, Dems insist on proving that requiring a purity test loses elections for us. The Republicans vote for a sack of rocks if it had an R beside its name. Consequently, we end up with someone worse than any Dem could be on their worst day. I'm going to do what the Repubs do in the GE: Vote for whatever sack of rocks has a D beside its name. Well, actually, there are no sacks or rocks running on our side. I'll vote for our candidate. Period. Seriously, anything else is suicide. And if you can't get behind the person who wins the Democratic primary, you don't belong here.

(28,817 posts)Its still a year away. If I made a choice today it would be Joe. But, as I said theres still time.
Theres also a chance one of those senators might say: I had bad judgement and shouldnt have jumped before due process for Al. Chances are slim, but who knows. Just as I believe Joe has evolved from the Anita Hill debacle.
Thats why we take our time.
still_one
(92,138 posts)actually think Joe Biden is not only the most qualified candidate in the group, I believe he also has the best chance to win, since I believe he can attract the most diverse voters compared to the other candidates, except for maybe Sherrod Brown.
I just wish Joe would declare he is running already.
My comment relating to Biden wasn't a slam against Biden, but it is going to get thrown at him if he runs. I am sure he realizes it also.
In fact, most of the probable leading candidates are going to get some uncomfortable things thrown at them, and I am sure they are aware of it.
The bottom line is as you alluded to, no one candidate is going to please everyone

(741 posts)When asked about Franken and the backlash she complained that she saw in the military a declination to even investigate accusations of sexual harassment or rape. She essentially equated Franken with gropers and rapists. She didnt answer the question about Franken, she spent her time complaining about the backlash.

With that said, there is only one way that a Democratic presidential nominee loses the 2020 election. The only fucking way that we lose in 2020 is if we fight among ourselves.
Haven't we learned a thing from 2016? This election cycle started with Bernie and Hillary trolls and bots, soon there will be trolls and bots for all of our candidates, SMH.
We don't have a candidate who is perfect, the sooner we accept that the better chance we have to deal with all of the trolls and bots on social media.

(713 posts)I will vote for whomever the Democratic Candidate is. That said, I am not a fan of Gillibrand because of the fact that she basically led the ouster of Franken.
There are people on the list of Congress people who called for Franken to resign that I still like anyway, particularly Booker. I like Harris.
I like Warren, but she seems a little too nice for rough politics, even though her positions and philosophy are great. She comes off as a sort of kindly librarian, whereas we need a street fighter to take the battle to man-child Trump.

I'll put all of the anti-Franken candidates in a category and choose my favorite candidate of the bunch.
Then I'll put all the others in another category and choose my favorite out of this grouping.
I'll then make my final decision between the two choices. Perhaps my anger will have subsided by then. Or perhaps not.

(442 posts)they (sen. Gillibrand in particular) disenfranchised millions of voters from Minnesota (including yours truly) in a shameful political ploy to stay above the fray, as it were, in light of he Roy Moore scandal and that kind of political gamesmanship is unseemly and, in my opinion, a disqualifier.

(14,173 posts)I suspect it was a top down edict, and Gillibrand was just the first and most enthusiastic about signing on and taking down a rival.
I "frankly" think it was unnecessary if their goal was to shore up the non-votes for Roy Moore. I think he was going down regardless. It wasn't as if a whole lot of Republicans could be swayed by that kind of knee jerk response by Democrats against one of their own. Republicans don't admire moves like that, they laugh at the weakness of it, even as they get rid of one of the prickliest thorns in the Senate.
I am disappointed that no one came to Al's aid, and it was a gang mentality where no one (of those who had higher aspirations) wanted to be left out in the stoning. The heights of the metoo. I think the order came from above to make a clean break with Franken - regardless if the charges had any merit - in order to play the "when they go low, we find something we can find even remotely similar with one of our own, hey we even accept work done for us in this regard by Roger Stone and Don Jr., and then send him to the moon!" tactic. That'll show em! And once the dog pile started it was difficult to be left out.
I wonder how much Democrats in Washington actually read this forum? Do they realize the level of disgust of the Franken debacle crosses all lines in the big tent? Its the only topic where I find DUers whom I have bitter battles with on other topics, agreeing how Franken was railroaded and also how much he is needed and we miss him.

(3,255 posts)I was and am pissed off about the Franken debacle, but life goes on. The whole thing had Roger Stone written all over it. Al was in the wrong place at the wrong time and the claims were giving the fascists bastard something to grab on to. He was a victim of what aboutism. One bad decision dosn't necesarily make a politician all bad. The primaries will decide and I will vote for the Democrat even if not my favorite.
