the reason...the REASON why he doesn't "have to resign" is that it is assumed that these Rethulicans ARE IN FACT RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC, and MISOGYNISTIC, and WYSIWYG. PEople fully expect these guys and gals to receive awards from the Confederacy, the RW Militia groups, the Klan, and welcome them with open hands, arms, and wallets. Oh yes, they'll make a comment decrying "whatever" but it's a wink and a nod...
