Accusation Du Jour

Anyone thinking that Charlie Pierce's warning that Republicans may have been the source of the Northam material/fiasco (and this in no way let's Northam off the hook) should be given a heads-up on the latest--an allegation against Justin Fairfax.

http://www.nbc12.com/2019/02/04/lt-gov-fairfax-slams-defamatory-false-sexual-assault-allegation/

This sort of ratf*cking is going to be the theme of 2020.

The GOP has used the trade effectively in the past. Now that they've exposed Northam's past, they're trying to work something for Fairfax.

Ugh!

The idiot needs to go, regardless of who found the picture.

He is responsible for the mess he created. But the question of who uncovered the yearbook photo is questionable. But now suddenly Fairfax is accused of sexual misconduct? With no credible evidence?

Color me suspicious.

The good thing is Justin Fairfax came right out and called the allegation foul.

but Northam's failure to resign put a hiccup in their plan.

Politcs can be dirty but the facts against Fairfax are just not there. In Northam's case they are so the ratfuckers will actually help Fairfax rise to the governor's seat when Northam does step down.

Their plan will backfire on them.

There's just so much crapola the electorate will tolerate. When it becomes too obvious that stories are being planted to discredit and/or defame then the whole plan falls apart. Voters become disgusted with constant muckraking.

Republicans are not known for their moderation in all things.

I honestly groaned when I saw this headline. Did not see it coming. But as you said, it makes sense. The opposition doesn't really gain anything by having a young, progressive black male replace Northam. So why not go for broke?

Ugh.

Just so we know what their game plan has been all along.

Maybe it's time for some entity on the left to start exposing TRUE damning facts about elected Republicans in state offices.

(from what I've read) President Pro Tempore, Steve Newman, who just happens to be a Republican would take over.

And if that were to come to pass, I think we could genuinely accuse the Republicans of a deliberate attempt to reverse a state election.

This is a shot across the bow. We need to be ready for incoming bombs because this will get very dirty on the way to 2020.

The chaos right now in Virginia is merely a first assault.

Attorney General Herring (D) would replace Lt Governor Fairfax in Virginia if the continuing chaos resulted in both Governor and Lt. Governor being forced out.

Had another poster give me a heads up and finally found the supporting reference on Ballotpedia as well.

Calms me down a bit. But not enough. This muckraking is all about damaging Democratic officials and upping Republican chances in 2020.
