Let's talk about my Patriots!

For years, we have witnessed many comments on this board concerning the New England Patriots and their "love" of Trump. Some go so far as to say us New Englanders should shun our own team due to the possible political opinions and actions of Bob Kraft, Bill Belichick and Tom "GOAT" Brady.

I disagree.

We already have several players state they will not visit the White House if invited. One, Duron Harmon, has even suggested he would like to do as the Warriors did and meet with Obama instead! To me, this suggests that the Pats are indeed a team I could support, since they have players of this great moral strength!

tldr: Not All Patriots!

* Didn't Brady skip going the last time?

The count is up to two Patriots players who say they will NOT visit the White House to meet Donald Trump -- with a third leaning heavily toward no.

Star safety Devin McCourty told the Associated Press while returning to New England on Monday with the Lombardi Trophy that he will not visit No. 45 if the Pats elect to go.

His twin brother, star corner Jason McCourty, was a little less committal ... but still seems like he'll follow his bro's lead and avoid 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. as well.

"I haven’t thought about it, but I highly doubt it," Jason said.

Of course, New England safety Duron Harmon has already pulled out of the possible event ... telling TMZ Sports after the Super Bowl, "They don't want me in the White House."

To be fair, I don’t think anyone should change teams. Why give this disgusting owner that sort of power over your life? There was just a story that the Cubs are owned by Trumpers as well...I imagine many teams are. To own a sports team, you need a lot of money and a big ego, and anyone who fits that description stands a good chance of being a Republican.

That said, yeah, it’s Team Trump. Patriots fans need to own that.

(For those outside of New England, on game days, Foxboro is an absolute disaster. Foxboro is basically the Armpit Of New England. Hartford would have been vastly superior with 2 intersecting interstates and plenty of potential locations.) Hartford was just a pawn in the pissing contest between the Krafts and Mass. leaders, so screw them. Consequestly, it's no surprise the sleazy Patriots leaders are on team MAGA.

(However, they did loan their team plane to the students for the March For Our Lives rally, so my hatred has lessened to some degree.)

The deal included several out clauses for Kraft, for if the steam plant could not be moved, if the site could not be cleaned (the ground was saturated with old coal tar), and such.

It's business, nothing nefarious. Perhaps the CT governor at the time should not have promised things before securing them.

Well, that is the most polite way I've heard around here asking for proof, so I'll give you points for that.

You can look for the article in the March 3, 2000 edition of the New York Times about the $2.4 million the Krafts and the NFL sent to CT in order to avoid a full-on lawsuit, which anyone who has followed then-Attorney General and now-Senator Richard Blumenthal knows he would have most certainly pursued. (No, no links. There is one, but that would be too easy. Besides, I already gave you points )

As for the steam plant and coal tar BS, there were plenty of other locations, as Rentschler Field and Dunkin' Donuts Park have overwhelmingly proven since then. But crafty Kraft insisted on that one site? Why is that lone site the only place he would accept? Hmm? Maybe because that would guarantee him an "out clause" while he was still illegally negotiating with Massachusetts? Hmmm???

No, it was not business. It was a contract violation, and thus fraud with a government entity. 100% Nefarious.

Congrats on your championship, however which way they got it.

In Lieu of Patriots, Hartford Gets a Check for $2.4 Million

Not so much a penalty, but rather a reimbursement for the initial costs and studies and such. It also came from the League, not Kraft. As for the other bit, the initial agreement was for the steam plant land, not a less-desirable East Hartford location. If you'd like to read a pretty good recap of the events; Hartford’s White Whale: How the Patriots Almost Became Connecticut’s Team

Again, it's business. Kraft negotiated those escape clauses, and the governor signed off on them, for if the site wasn't gong to be ready by 2002. Sorry that your claim to fame remains a hockey team known as the Forever .500s, but them's the breaks.

And Trump cancelled the White House visit when he learned the Eagles were pretty much to a man not going to go to "get the jump" on them. He must have learned such Machiavellian thinking from his buddy Belicheat.

I don't know how your statement about Foles and Wentz contradicts that. Clearly they realized their teammates were not interested.
