I've never wanted a campaign about "Social Issues" before

Starting with Nixon, the Republicans have turned every election into a campaign about social issues, unless they had a compelling economic or national security argument.

Today they want to run on the economy (despite having no proposals that would improve it any) and are frustrated to find themselves in a campaign dominated by "social issues."

How ironic.
