The evening news should be retitled "news to us."

In February, house Republicans voted unanimously to end medicare.

Romney picking Ryan made that a story. The fact that the whole party had already voted to end medicare was, for some reason, not much of a story.

The Republican party platform calls for banning abortion in cases of rape. It has called for that continuously since 1980.

Akin saying some dumb shit makes that a story. But it has been the same story every day for 32 years.

The evening news should be retitled "news to us."

Honestly. I don't know. Last I heard the networks programmed soft "mews" in that time slot -- like the evening edition of "Good Morning America". I haven't watched any of those programs for 20 years.

They have made themselves completely irrelevant. Some of that is the change in technology to cable, like the movement from typewriter to word processor. But I think much of it is self-inflicted. They came to view themselves as "happy talk" outlets, predisposed to endorse whatever the administration and power centers were pushing. In doing so, they ceased to be a voice for, of, or to the people. Then when CNN did the same thing, but with 24x7 access, and Faux took away the authoritarian base that was already the majority of their audience, they were screwed.
