SANFORD Prosecutors want more of George Zimmerman's medical records, but he's fighting back.
Defense attorneyMark O'Marahas scheduled a hearing Friday to try to stop the release.
The state is asking for Zimmerman's records from an Altamonte Springs doctor's office. O'Mara already has released some, those that show what treatment Zimmerman got the day after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin Feb. 26 in Sanford.
The 28-year-old Zimmerman says he acted in self-defense after the teenager got on top of him and began beating him.
Those already-released medical records show that Zimmerman had a fractured nose, cuts to the back of his head and a back injury, but Special Prosecutor Angela Corey's office has asked for more, according to O'Mara's pleading.
O'Mara says they shouldn't get it. He's asking Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. to quash the subpoena. Both sides are to be in court Friday at 8:30 a.m. Zimmerman is not expected to be there.
In court paperwork made public Monday, O'Mara wrote that those records are private and that if the doctor's office surrenders them, prosecutors will release them to the public.
That, O'Mara contends, is not fair.
In a blog post Monday afternoon O'Mara wrote, "We have agreed to review the records and voluntarily disclose what may be relevant."

(79,302 posts)there are still too many questions that need to be answered, so excuse me if I don't give a shit about Zimmerman's "privacy". He pretty much gave that up when he murdered that teen.

(954 posts)As much as I hate this man, I cannot support saying that his entire medical history should be released.

(29,047 posts)Would he have to release all medical records throughout his entire life, or just the one's pertaining to the shooting?
If he only had to release the one's pertaining to the case, and if he has been telling the truth about his injuries, then the medical records should only help his case.

(3 posts)If they want to release things like past colds or sprains, then I agree they shouldn't be released. But if they contain information on any mental health issues, especially those which should have kept GZ from getting a concealed license, then they should have access and be released. Also if he has a past history of a back injury, which would show that this existed before the encounter. Both sides, along with the judge, should review the records and decide if they contain information that could be relevant.

(954 posts)I suspect we're all suffering from poor journalism, in this case. We don't have all the facts.
