What was the real reason that Trump went to El Paso?

Was it just a campaign event? Or were there other under-lying reasons?

It is true that one of his strongest opponents, Beto O'Rourke, was leading a march just a mile away from the Trump hatefest. But, is that why Trump came to El Paso?

No doubt, he wanted his crowd to be larger than Beto's but that did not materialize.

Also, he wanted to preach about the virtue of "walls".

But, above all that, he wanted to send his base a message. The Mueller investigation is a big "hoax". Senator Richard Burr said they had found no "collusion", he told the crowd.

From a distance, it appeared that he was fearful of a shoe that was about to drop? He is anticipating some bad news from the Mueller investigation, or perhaps, the SDNY investigation led by Andrew Weissmann?

He is totally preoccupied with continuing his cover-up of his Russia connections. But, from this perspective, it looks like a big rock is about to be turned over? Who knows what will be under it?

Of the truth. He's also getting more desperate at controlling the news cycle now with the PR images and sound bites he wants, especially away from Putin , Cohen , and Mueller. He knows what's coming is why, so he has to tell his cult members more lies to reassure them only he can be believed. He's a professional con man, whose done this for a living in his business. He knows he's losing support too. Donors are running away from him.

if that disgusting little weasel Stephen Miller "advised" his malignant boss El Paso was a trump-friendly border city he was sadly mistaken...most of those white ferociously vile trump sycophants were bussed in...during the day MAGAT kiosks were set up along I-10..curiosity got the better of me and I stopped to ask if the guys hawking trump's garbage were from El Paso...all three said no..they had come in the night before...wouldn't tell me from where..and this was just a paid job...

Trump tries to "boost" whoever he thinks is the least popular of his opposition, he does this by insults. You saw how he got Little Marco to make reference to hand size, and stole attention away from Jebbie, Cruz, and the rest.

He probably thinks Beto is pretty weak not even being able to defeat someone that even Trump doesn't like. The wall thing is just a bonus.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Being unable to hold a rally for 35 days because of his self-created shutdown, he was like an addict cut off from his drug of choice. The fact that he had to claim his crowd was more than quadruple its actual size was like an addict taking a bigger dose just to get the same high.

I've been alive since Truman was president, and in all that time I've never seen such a worthless piece of shit hold the office. I'd almost like to live another 50 years to see what historians write about this period.

I think you are right and the rallies are like an anti anxiety drug for Trump. No matter how much he tries to deny what is happening, a part of him must know Mueller is coming for him. So no matter how many supporters he convinces, it won't change reality and it will only relieve his own uncertainty for a short period of time.

More than anyone, Trump knows what Mueller can find and his behavior indicates Mueller has gotten to that "big rock".

He is so pathetic that he needs that constant self-praise and applause from his supporters, who seem to have no ability to think for themselves. Trump wants to brand a border wall with his name. He can call it “The Great Wall of Trump” and have the followeing engraved on it (apologies to the real sentiment of the Emma Lazarus poem):

“Give me your rich, your white,
Your greedy autocrats yearning to breathe free,
The corrupt refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to perdition,
I lift my hand to close the golden door!”

I believe his concern about Beto is the fact that he is the only major (potential) candidate who has personal, lifetime experience with a border state, a wall to monitor border crossings, and the knowledge of how such a wall affects the day-to-day lives of average citizens living in such a community. It only becomes more concerning for Shitler because Beto has charisma and an encouraging and inspirational message for prospective voters. Whether he runs for POTUS or is chosen to become the standard bearer's running mate, Beto O'Rourke is a formidable challenger to the KGOP's Henny Penny "The Sky is Falling" (i.e., the ferigners are coming to kill us all!), fearmongering broken record.

The one that stood more chance to fall on his face was O'Rourke if the crowds didn't materialize for him. I'm glad and not surprised in the least that his event drew more attendees. We could only see a few of his remarks, but from what I witnessed last evening, I am even more impressed with him that I was when he was running. I was really disappointed he didn't win. We still have our yard sign from the midterms. I think I'm going to keep it around for another couple of years - and maybe after that!

Some big stuff is getting ready to come down, and the more Trump focuses on Mueller, the more incriminating he becomes with his remarks and actions.

Those advisers I mention also face criminal investigations and possible prison. The advisers sent him there to get his ego stroked, and distract him from Mueller for while so he'd shut up about Mueller, at least for a day.
