A billboard near Dallas says, The Seals removed one threat to America. Remove the other in November. The controversy is that Osama Bin Laden, referring to the threat the Seals removed, is now dead, and some people feel that comparing state-sanctioned elimination of a terrorist with removing a president from office was going too far.
It should also be noted that Admiral William McRaven, the commander of Seal Team Six, has indicated that Obama is responsible for the death of bin Laden, saying, Well, let me make one thing clear, I didnt order the raid. And this is not a small point. The fact of the matter is, it was the President of the United States that ordered the raid.
The creator of the billboard, Tom Schad, should probably give credit where credit is due.
If you would like to change that, they are TerryCo Outdoor Advertising, based in Gainesville, Texas. They can be reached at (940) 365-3433. If you file a complaint, please do not try to offend the company. They offer a service, and if they declined on grounds of political affiliation it would be wrong. Just complain about the billboard.

(3,436 posts)It was with someone I work with...actually a very nice person, but just bat-shit crazy in her politics. Basically, her argument is that we're not allowed to bring up Bush, because we're supposed to look forward, not back, just like Obama says. Just kept repeating it, and wouldn't answer or allow me to ask the question. I think there must be an on-line class or something they take that teaches them how never to vary from the talking point.

(289 posts)Thanks for posting that, Segami. It's good to keep up with the whereabouts of loonies in these parts. Their cowardice shows in their timing, though. They found it easy to threaten Clinton and now Obama. During the Dubya Disaster, they were sometimes bold when making anonymous posts and calls to radio shows, but I don't remember any signs remotely similar to the one in your link because they know the Bushes don't mind spilling blood. They still try and blame Clinton for the Branch Davidian raid, when in fact they know full well the probe began during old man Bush's rule and the raid was carried out by leftovers from his administration. There's a popular theory that Koresh burned down the place out of sheer fright. I don't think McVeigh (and Elohim City) would have had the nerve to carry out the OKC bombing while a Bush was in office either. Or Reagan for that matter. The Indianapolis (Indiana) Baptist Temple investigation was ordered by Reagan, and one of his federal court appointees turned down the church's final appeal right at the end of Clinton's second term. Several of the most violent militias in the country were preparing to head to Indianapolis to keep the IRS from seizing the church until they found out the seizure orders would not be carried out until after Dubya took office. I don't recall hearing a peep out of them during the rest of Dubya's terms.
I'm talking about events you already know about, but some other readers may not be aware of them. I've had the strange fortune or misfortune of knowing a lot of these characters and they become bold and dangerous if they smell fear and think public opinion might be on their side. That's why these types of signs are dangerous. More than anything else they may be trying to "inspire" a passerby to do their dirty work. I've talked long enough. Thanks for the post.

The OBL raid could very easily have Barack Obama's Desert One. Does anyone doubt for a moment that this Republican-controlled House would fail to reap that whirlwind? I mean, look how fulsome their praise has been for this accomplishment. No, really.
I believe that the actual death of OBL was a psychologically important event for a lot of registered voters. I have to question the guy who came up with the concept for the billboard-- trying to take an Obama victory and twist it into a call for his defeat seems a little weird and counter-intuitive to me. Plus, as a vet I am a little pissed off about the use of images of soldiers in uniform and combat gear being used for crass political purposes-- to help elect a guy who has studiously avoided wearing any of this country's uniforms. (The Magic Underwear doesn't count.)

(13,200 posts)"I said that God might speak to the world through a burning Bush," Humphreys, 50, later testified in federal court. "I thought it was funny. It was prophetizing."
Knowing President George W. Bush was scheduled to visit nearby Sioux Falls the next day, a bartender reported Humphreys' comment to local police, claiming that Humphreys alluded to the possibility of someone pouring a flammable liquid on the president and lighting it. Local police took Humphreys into custody at his Sioux Falls motel just hours before Bush arrived.
Unfortunately for Humphreys, the humor was lost on U.S. Attorney Michael Ridgeway. "It wasn't a joke," Ridgeway told the federal jury a year and a half later. "It wasn't funny. Simply put, it was a threat." As evidence, Ridgeway pointed to a transcript from an Internet chat room where Humphreys wrote, "now going to ask Bush for justice, and if I don't get it don't be surprised to see a burning Bush."

That can obviously be seen as a threat.
A billboard that shows soldiers and references SEALS, and November (a clear indication that the "removal" would be at the ballot box) may be obvious to you, but it certainly isn't to me. Some people choose to find the most sinister meaning possible, and others don't. You're obviously the former, while I am the latter.

We have limitless media outlets, one little billboard (or thousands) is not going to change anything. Swiftboating is not going to win it this year.
People are more cognative now. They seem to be responding to statistics this year, nevermind whether they are fake. Republicans have been on a campaign creating elaborate and confusing statistics sprinkled with false numbers that nobody can understand but nevertheless sound convincing. That's where the real threat lies.

(10,893 posts)I mean sure, it would be cool for me to express myself publicly and try to enact more policies that would get the country moving in a more leftward direction again like nationwide marijuana legalization and Canadien-style health care. But after seeing all this vitriol that Obama has had to endure, I could never do it. I'd lose my mind within the first month and be paranoid for my life. It's absurd how much hatred Obama has experienced from GOPhers since Day 1, just because the color of his skin. They always try to deny that there's racism involved, but how do you explain some of the reasons why they've been out to trash him? For example, many of them continue to call him a socialist while utilizing socialist services like public highways and police departments. They say he wants to take away people's guns, despite him never proposing any gun control measures. They said he wants to "enslave white people." And they continue to claim he's a foreigner, despite repeated displays of his birth certificate. I think you can do the math here, folks.
If there's any threat that needs to be removed from America, it's the entire Republican party. They have no new beneficial policies to offer the working-class or the rest of America, and all they do is spread misinformation in order to maintain the status quo and keep the 99% fighting amongst ourselves.
