Look where the the hurricane is due according to the start of convention. The irony!
But seriously, residents of FL, stay safe!

(14,337 posts)cancel my trip to the Keys next week, but if it hits the Convention, I will gladly put up with it.

(19,877 posts)I hope it's nothing too terrible. Maybe just a traffic nightmare that forces RNC confusion, scheduling conflicts and canceled speakers.

(221 posts)But it's funny when Paul Krugman says it? Not in my opinion. He's obviously never dealt with the aftermath of a serious hurricane. What a douchebag.

(31,893 posts)Krugman also says "us" - which doesn't single out any particular "other" on whom to cast blame.
Robertson, on the other hand, makes dead serious declarations, and points the finger of blame to "them" - the "other", those out groups whom he has judged to be transgressing his personal interpretation of morality.

(13,992 posts)Krugman is making a joke, referencing Pat Robertson's well-known tendency to announce that natural disasters are "proof" of God's wrath and some damned thing or another.

(20,998 posts)Or how about God seeking retribution for all the people MURDERED in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last two immoral republican wars of aggression? I don't think he said OR IMPLIED that either.
Neue Regel
(221 posts)It's clearly a reference to god punishing florida and/or republicans, unless Krugman thinks China has a weather machine that can spawn hurricanes. At any rate, it's all fun and games until the body count begins.

Given the penchant of a certain preacher to seriously saying this... many of us have made the same observation. It is actually ironic, in all kinds of ways.

(221 posts)If you follow the link to Krugman's page you will see there is no comment from him, only the picture with the caption "Is someone trying to tell us something?" The OP is the one who added, "But seriously, residents of FL, stay safe!"
Having lived through Hurricanes Elena and Katrina, pardon me for not finding this kind of bullshit funny, regardless of who says it.

(62 posts)The storm is named for one of the most fiery of the Old Testament prophets. While I do not want anyone getting hurt, a few stranded Republicans on rooftops would make for amusing evening news montages.

Massive rains in the mountains between DR and Haiti could cause deadly floods, I would guess.
Cuba has a lot better social infrastructure to deal with these sorts of disasters, I hope.
Republicans in Tampa will be okay I guess, since shit floats.
