I just had my interview with the local Chamber of Commerce.

My opponent has always had their endorsement, and he'll probably get it this time because he's a Republican. Unlike him, I AM a former small business owner, and I clearly explained to the interview panel that our future must be place-based economies that keep capital, customers, entrepreneurship and relationships local, connected and life-affirming. I've never understood why local chambers of commerce don't fight alongside mom-and-pops and local startups against big-box encroachment, food deserts and infrastructure decline, except that they're committed to low business taxes no matter what.

In other news, the temperature's back down in the 80's and walking and knocking on doors is much more pleasant than last week. We're sending 500 letters to known donors tonight, hoping for a cash infusion to pay for 1000 lawn signs that'll be delivered next week.

Thanks to those DUers who've visited my site and contributed!

Lester R. Brown, David Korten, Phillip Blond, Gar Alperovitz - these are the minds pointing the way to a survivable future. I believe it's at the state legislative level where the most meaningful work can be done.

You're right, the big job is local and for representatives.

We need Obama and Democrats in D.C., but so many changes on the state level affect our lives. We can't get dragged backward.

Have you put a word in regarding your campaign to Korten's online magazine, YES! to organize more people in Oregon? I'll bet a lot of them read it. We have some members who live in Oregon, too.

Running for office is not for the faint hearted at all, it really tests a person's mettle and ability to make connections.

Because big boxes can afford the Executive or Presidential Chamber membership packages that most mom and pops can't.
