downplay the GOP platform.
"Akin's language hearkens back to the 1950's" but the GOP platform which is basically line with Akin's thoughts of not providing an exception in the case of rape or incest is "toothless" and doesn't mean anything.
They're trying to separate Romney from his party's platform.
Here is some news for CNN a platform isn't "toothless" it's a reflection of the most active members of a political party, an insight in to that's party's soul so to speak and if enough Republicans come to power the chances of such proposals becoming law greatly increase.
So whether you're so ignorant as to believe rape can't cause pregnancy or not, the end result is the same.
