London (CNN) Brexit could be on the brink of being postponed.
Three senior UK ministers have issued a warning to Theresa May that Britain's departure from the European Union should be delayed if there is no breakthrough on her deal in the next few days.
Writing in the UK's Daily Mail newspaper, cabinet members Amber Rudd, David Gauke and Greg Clark signaled they would support a vote in Parliament to have the Article 50 process extended in order to prevent Britain leaving the EU without a deal.
"If there is no breakthrough in the coming week, the balance of opinion in Parliament is clear -- that it would be better to seek to extend Article 50 and delay our date of departure rather than crash out of the European Union on March 29," the trio wrote in the article published Saturday.

(118,800 posts)week. His point was the government should never have had a Brexit vote to begin with. That it is not the public's job to decide policy. That that is government's job. They are the experts. That the people were unqualified to make that decision. That they elect government to decide. No new vote. Just cancel Brexit. Let's cross our fingers.

(54,445 posts)The European High Court handed the UK a Get-Out-of-Brexit-Free card by rendering a decision that they could rescind the decision and it would be nullified. Of course, the massive damage to the UK economy by all the financial institutions already leaving probably cannot be undone, as the ones that are gone will not be returning. But there are still a number of multi-national and European companies with a huge presence in Britain that have not shut their operations there down yet. They would love nothing better than to take advantage of the incentives HM Government will no doubt be offering to stay if Brexit is called off at the last minute.
Calling off Brexit completely would still be by far the most sensible move Britain could make. Not that nations are known for making incredibly sensible moves at the last minute. I think the last time that happened was when Kennedy and Khrushchev avoided nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.
