As a teacher, I probably spend $1,000 through out the year on my classroom Taxes previously let us

either itemize or at least gave us a standard $250.00 deduction.

But that deduction is now gone!

we never said we spent more than we did...usually just took the standard 250

I know it isn't a huge thing, but to me it is another way to say screw you teachers.

I think $250 deduction still applies. Of course, you spend $250 to help kids, and get back $75 Hoyt Feb 2019 #7

to spend more than a little due to their own fondness for items is a huge thing. We had become so badly degraded even before the current anti-education plots on the right, of which this hit on the teachers who are giving so much to hold it together is obviously a part.

We have a lot to turn around, but we know how to do it right.

if not we used the 250 but now even that is gone.

I spent 150 before school even started because I require my students to use an interactive notebook and right before school, they go on sale for 50 cents. I have anywhere from 130-176 students a year.

Usually I upgrade and laminate posters, buy tons of pencils, erasers, staplers, 3 hole punchers, sharpeners, note cards, tri-folds for special projects, Things for students to turn in their papers, colored paper colored pencils, copy paper, scissors, rulers, markers, crayons and on and on and on.

Somethings hopefully last through time like scissors -but I have gone through 2 pencil sharpeners, the 3 hole punch walked off and most of the rulers will somehow be shorter in May

and then things for special projects like our Lewis and Clark "walk" and our Bill of Rights globe and the Civil War in Pictures quilt...

I would imagine If I wrote down every thing I have spent each year it would equal to one paycheck

but...I refuse to be that history teacher that only teaches from the book BORING

$24,000 so just curious if your dedication previously was more than that or not. Our itemized deductions before was about $16,000 last year so the new standard is quite a bit more than what we were taking before even though we lost out on a lot of the individual things we used to deduct.

from now on, I am going to buy golf pencils. They are short and already sharpened and I usually get them back.

I am not the teacher that writes a kid up for not having a pencil. IT is just easier to provide one.

at best. Not much. But, in your case you don't get anything for the extra $750 you spend.

It's criminal teachers have to spend this money in the first place, but thanks for helping.
