Sometimes I think he feels being America's First Clown in chief is impressive, and probably his only legacy.

(6,709 posts)But cognitive dissonance or Dunning-Kruger sets in to prevent him from really "getting" it. He doesn't believe people are actually laughing, they are just being mean and attacking him for political reasons.

(58,785 posts)literally incapable of seeing themselves as others do. Traump can only see himself as he sees himself, which is always wonderful. He'd also be completely lacking in self awareness.
We know he used to be shocked and very upset on getting feedback on his behaviors, often flying into the typical narcissistic "rages" that could last days, but of course he now chalks most of it up to malignant media lies.

He's insane.

(58,785 posts)But not insane. We would have to remove an insane president.
From what I've read, cognitive functions would be affected to some degree in serious personality disorders of his general type. But Trump apparently mostly takes the self-serving restyling of reality that is so common in normal people to an especially dysfunctional degree -- and chronically, not just sometimes, which would also be key to it being a full-blown personality disorder and not just normal indulgence of preferred delusions.
A fascinating topic. How would the religious right reconcile the reality of personality disorders with burning in eternal fires as just "reward" for earthly behaviors? No wonder so many refuse to look and cannot see?
