(54,465 posts)A huge wind storm rolled through our part of Germany yesterday and this morning and half the trains were canceled. I didn't get home until late, and I have to be in Sprout City tomorrow morning, back here tomorrow night, and then in Spain (Catalunya, if you wanna get technical) 24 hours after that.
There is no rest for the weary!
Kind of Blue
(8,709 posts)But you're hitting parts of Europe, Germany and Spain, where I have family members. So I'm going to ask them to join me tonight in wishing you safe journeys, DFW. I'm imagining you successfully completing all of your tasks and yet refreshed when you get back home. Same from Köln and Valencia coming at you
DFW
(54,465 posts)I haven't been to Valencia since 1969 (!!). I guess a return visit is overdue.
I picked up a nasty cold yesterday from having to wait outside in the cold wind forever for trains that never came. I have to fly down to Barcelona this afternoon, but my ears are clear, so it should be OK. The only downside is that my wife, who usually comes with me on this annual trip, can't make it this year, so it will be a little lonelier than usual.
Kind of Blue
(8,709 posts)Traveling can be a lot of fun but not that easy. I frequently caught colds and suffered mild thrombosis especially from long flights. Always had to allow at least a few days to recover.
Yeah, my first trips were alone and they got progressively lonelier, until friends and then my sister joined in. Luckily, my husband is a military brat who's also done with traveling. But still on our bucket list is New Orleans if we could ever summon the will to pack
DFW
(54,465 posts)This happens usually every February/March and October/November, which are my most work-intensive months.
Next month, I have to go over to the States for 2 weeks, less than 2 weeks after coming back, I booked a two.day working trip to Porto in Portugal. We've never been to Porto, and we'll have a day to explore the place.
I'm in Barcelona now, hoping my cough will calm down enough to let me sleep. I haven't been to New Orleans since 1981. I'll bet the food is still good!

And I noticed absolutely zilch about Rep. Waters recently.

(59,533 posts)Calling her low IQ.
Kind of Blue
(8,709 posts)Maybe she's an easy target for his base to grasp and he doesn't need to anymore. But Rep. Waters as the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee might give him pause.

(86,880 posts)each of them, is exponentially greater than his and he's probably been told that he'd be pantsed in less than the first second by any one of them. He has tried to tangle with Nancy and it didn't go well for him, she reamed him on teevee when he was trying to set her up for embarrassment.
He's starting to figure out that the women he doesn't pay off are not going to fold in his favor.

(58,785 posts)of these swamp creatures would want her team putting together one of their lengthy history lessons culminating in in-depth evaluation of their place in history?
As for Trump, he may recoil at the very thought of her. With his inability to concentrate, school was probably mostly 16 years of painful aversion conditioning, to the point of traumatic. PTSD,
post-traumatic schooling disorder, with seeing Rachel bringing back that cold, sick feeling?
Her endless repetitions might only intensify the flashbacks.
Whatever. Hard to imagine he didn't get bored and fall hopelessly behind, lost in a forest of somewhat complex sentences, in the first 3 minutes of any segment he tried to watch.
Kind of Blue
(8,709 posts)to me, they revere that place in history. As I heard Ann Coulter say a few months ago, "He is who we've been waiting for. Don't you get it," she recalled saying to one of her friends who was appalled by 45's ascending in the republican primaries. And then she actually cackled in ecstasy listing what he would do and the damage that was coming. She said her friend replied, "Yeah, I don't like him but he will do everything that we want."

(32,841 posts)Bannon has said many times that Rachel is badass, and he knows she'd tear Chump to pieces. It's likely Hannity told Chump the same thing. Come to think of it, Roger Ailes probably warned him too.
Kind of Blue
(8,709 posts)I have no doubt now that that's their general consensus. I can imagine Maddow going more relentlessly after him than ever before if he ever gave her any reason on Twitter to do so. Yeah, they're not that stupid.

(8,709 posts)Went searching a bit more and found this in a Rolling Stone interview https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/rachel-maddow-the-rolling-stone-interview-200759/
I wasnt seeking help from him on how to create a toxic political environment, I was looking for help on my camera angles! But I dont want to talk about the technical advice he gave me, because I consider it to be both a gift and also proprietary like, I use it, I dont want anybody else to use it. It was a nice thing that he did for me, and its been very valuable it helped me get an advantage over my competitors.
Was it hard for you to reconcile the Ailes you knew with the Ailes who was accused of serial sexual harassment?
It was just never my experience of him. I knew him in a very specific context. Ive never been in his office. Ive never seen him interact with his staff. I only ever saw him in public. Wed meet and have breakfast. Im horrified by the allegations against him, and I am appreciative of how serious Fox must have found them to be in order to fire him. But I didnt know anything about it. I was never in touch with Roger after those allegations became public.
Did you ever try?
Its funny, the last time that we had any communication was within 48 hours of that story breaking with the allegations. Id sent him a note saying that I wanted to see him. Nothing urgent, just lets put a date on the calendar. After the story broke, I remember thinking, I wonder if hell ask me to vouch for him or something. But I never heard from him again.
Your not having any idea is a bit hard to swallow, when there were stories for years about how he dealt with women. Unless he treated you more like a guy?
Yeah, Im not that female. I've been an out lesbian since I was a teenager. I look like a dude. Im totally comfortable with that. I am not trying to be on TV because I like the way I look on TV or because I love the glamour.
Perhaps her sexuality in the last bit of the excerpt might be another reason for the administration's hands-off approach, they just don't know how to handle a PhD Rhodes Scholar, good-natured out lesbian political commentator who appears every day of the week; in re-runs on the weekend.

(13,789 posts)Rachel.... is not attractive (she never claimed to be);
What??? Every time I watch Rachel I'm struck by how easy she is to look at (74 year old hetero woman here, nothing extra implied). I love her quirky smile. I'm relieved she doesn't have a long loose hairdo. And she's just (forgive me) pretty!!
