Chuck Todd Suggests America's Toxic Politics Is Obama's Fault: He Didn't 'Bring This Country Together'
NBC News' weakest link continues to normalize the GOP's destruction of democratic norms and institutions by blaming President Barack Obama for the Republican Party's obstructionism.
By David
NBC host Chuck Todd suggested on Sunday that the U.S. is divided politically because former President Barack Obama failed to "bring this country together."
While speaking with Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke on Meet the Press, Todd asked the 2020 contender about healing the country's political divide.
"Why do you think that didn't happen in Obama's eight years?" the NBC host queried, ignoring the unprecedented level of Republican obstructionism during his administration, beginning with Mitch McConnell stating openly his goal of making him a one-term president on the day of his inauguration.
"I know that President Obama worked incredibly hard to find common ground with Republicans," O'Rourke replied. "He was able to achieve a heck of a lot in those eight years."

(50,528 posts)I'm pretty sure that if President Obama were to go into the Rose Garden and commit suicide on national television, they'd complain about how he did it.

(10,266 posts)I haven't made a decision yet for who I support in the primaries. That answer doesn't help. I'm not saying I want a firebrand, but goddamn is it too much to ask for someone who isn't gonna agree that bullshit smells like roses?
Come on, man..

He has a national stage from which to speak, I believe it is his job to fix everything.
Or better yet, just go away.

(58,785 posts)and long the most effective. Over 40% didn't vote in 2016 and most claimed to believe there was no significant difference between parties.
Appallingly, that claim was made by many leftist dissidents, who to this day seem unable to connect their anti-Democrat behaviors and votes with such things as stacking of the courts with hard-core conservative political activists and white supremacist atrocities and persecutions of various vulnerable groups.

(1,822 posts)How often was he meeting w/ GOP leaders? Hell he even did interviews with O'Reilly. Lets see Trump go do an interview with someone on MSNBC. He wont even do it for CNN. The thing that drives me insane in this country is that the GOP goes hard to the right or hard line tactics and if the Dems do anything to respond it's "both sides do it". If a liberal policy is put forward its "look how socialist the left has gone" but no one mentions how far right the GOP is, to the point we aren't even listening to scientists anymore.

(10,823 posts)Blame the Democratic Party and in this case blame Barack Obama for the sins of the Republican Party, Faux News, right-wing radio and the continuous spew of propaganda. We should ask Chuckles and other 'pundits' why that is the case, why there's so little pushback by a good portion of the media, why Trump was given a pass on every disgusting comment and revelation.
Easy to blame President Obama who was handed a shit sandwich when he took office--rising unemployment, the housing market in a tailspin and the economy both here and abroad on its knees. All tied to Republican mismanagement.
But then, I don't think Chuckles and his cohort like looking in the mirror much. Let's point fingers elsewhere. That's the ticket!

(10,266 posts)Obama was supposed to ignore and absolve outright and abject racism (and tell ALL the non-white people to do the same)
Obama was supposed to ignore his own party planks in order to cut taxes for rich WHITE PEOPLE
Obama was supposed to invade and destroy every country in the middle east, and give all that conquered land to Israel.
In other words, in order to bring this country together in a why that white rascists would have been happy with, Obama would have to have shoved himself into their idea of what a 'Good N****r was supposed to be.
Chuck Todd can go fuck himself to death.

(46,020 posts)On the night of Barack Obamas inauguration, a group of top GOP luminaries quietly gathered in a Washington steakhouse to lick their wounds and ultimately create the outline of a plan for how to deal with the incoming administration.
The room was filled. It was a whos who of ranking members who had at one point been committee chairmen, or in the majority, who now wondered out loud whether they were in the permanent minority, Frank Luntz, who organized the event, told FRONTLINE.
Among them were Senate power brokers Jim DeMint, Jon Kyl and Tom Coburn, and conservative congressmen Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan.
After three hours of strategizing, they decided they needed to fight Obama on everything. The new president had no idea what the Republicans were planning.
