I heard Repubs on morning tv, and a lengthy critical article on Fox News site, criticizing Beto (with the usual misrepresentations).
I'm thinking...this is the one they consider the biggest threat at this time. That may change, but for now, it's Beto they want to knock out of the race.
Interesting, since Beto doesn't have the biggest numbers.

They shifted focus to their perceived next threat. Beto will withstand their focus, as well. So will Kamala. So will Inslee, et al.

(37,648 posts)I really don't think Warren is a threat to them, and they would like her to be the nominee. Inslee is an unknown without much support so far, so he's not a threat.
Biden and Harris are probably the nearest ones who are real threats.
Numbers at this stage are meaningless, though. And Beto is not at the top of the pack. So it's interesting they're going after him.

(114,394 posts)over the past few years, and they feel they were successful and are now focused on Beto. And they will shift focus to any candidate they perceive as gaining ground on them.
I think our candidates will persist despite the GOPs focus, and some will thrive.

(428 posts)...as someone who pays close attention to policy and substance, I think Beto is sorely lacking. As someone who is decidedly left of center, I think Beto is probably the candidate who is least in tune with my own needs and desires in a candidate.
That being said, most voters are surface, low information types and are susceptible to style over substance. Those same folks are just fine with general platitudes and a photogenic look and pleasant demeanor and I think Beto fits that category as a safe, youngish, white dude who doesn't scare them by speaking about any scary, difficult subjects that they might be scared of with Republican talking points about those same subjects.

(829 posts)Love the "youngish white dude" comment, kind of a code phrase for pointing out how racist and anti female those Beto supporters must be. And those Beto supporters must be stupid cause they simply do not pay "close attention to policy and substance" like you, if they did, they would see how correct you are and how wrong they are. Lovely post, not arrogant or self righteous at all.

(3,046 posts)candidate is - they have my vote.
Personally, I prefer KH.
Maybe we can have KH for pres and Beto for vice. That would be a killer
ticket.

(428 posts)....I said what I said as a white dude roughly the same age and background as Beto.
I realize I should be over the fucking moon about a presidential candidate who talks about the influence of Dischord Records on his life and who played in a punk band and who has friends in the scene I came up in and still have connections to. But unfortunately I need a little more substance than that, and I personally need someone who is more left of center to get my primary support and I'm also immediately uninterested in someone who basks in the whole notion of "rising above partisan politics" or "reaching across the aisle" or whatever else he's going on about.
But I'd absolutely vote for him without hesitation in the GE, and as I said I think he's probably the biggest threat to Republicans for the very same reasons he doesn't particularly appeal to me.
