Tweep, Tweeter or Twitterer: Person who uses Twitter. (Plural: Tweeple, Tweeters or Twitterers)

Tweeps: Used when referring to the people who follow you on Twitter. For example: "Hey Tweeps, what's up?" or "My Tweeps are the best!"

Tweet: A Twitter update. (They can only be 140 characters, which is why you'll often see weird abbreviations, bad grammar, no punctuation, etc.)

Twitosphere: The "World of Twitter."

Before anyone asks ...
Yes, I am very embarrassed by the fact that I know this!

Fri Aug 24, 2012, 08:03 PM
Aug 2012

For example, I am pretty sure that the number of spaces allotted by Twitter for a person to write their statement of anger, purpose, irritation, annoyance, or what-have-you would be insufficient to accommodate this very post that I am writing to you. This is why you see so much of that "U" and "4" and "2" substituting for "you," "for," and "too/to" when people are conversing--they would run out of spaces for their letters otherwise. This is not a terribly long post, as posts go, but it still would not "fit" as a tweet.

If you're looking for adult grammar and spelling, don't go to Twitter. There's not room for appropriate spelling and grammar with the 140-character limit. You do what you have to do to get the message across, and your followers make allowances. Even those of us who were English majors in college abbreviate and misspell on Twitter out of necessity. Twitter doesn't seem to be tailored for you. You may wish to go back to yelling at kids you find on your lawn.

Aug 2012

I hate, hate, HATE the piling on of everyone who thinks it's more important to say "Look how smart I am and how dumb they are!" than to actually pay attention to content and intent of communications.

I teach writing, among other things. If I treated any aspiring writer the way some people here treat anyone who says something with poor grammar or spelling, or makes any kind of mistake, no one would ever improve. But they'd be shamed, all right, and wouldn't that be brilliant of me?

Hell, I make mistakes. I make big mistakes. Everyone does. I even enjoy a mistake when someone is being an asshole and steps in it really well by being a "moran." If I was on the Romney side I might snark a little about the misspelling. But it wouldn't make the world go 'round any better. And I hate it when it obscures why we're here.

Mini-rant over.

And she's right. Romney's mighty white.
