We never really do learn, do we?
Sure. There's the possibility the Mueller Report, in its completion, is devastating to Trump.
But gosh, I can't help but feel we're right back to the start of this whole journey. Two years ago, it was 'Let Mueller finish his report...'
Now, it's 'Let Mueller release his full report...'
Why would anyone expect a different outcome? We're once again hitching our wagon to the hope that THIS will be the new devastating blow ... but sorry, guys, I'm not getting my hopes up. Been there. Done that. Not gonna be fooled again.
Meanwhile, the headlines in newspapers across the country today are pretty fucking devastating.
My newspaper, which is fairly left-of-center and has no problem taking shots at Trump, says in its headline:
MUELLER FINDS NO COLLUSION
This is what Americans will be waking up to.
The damage is going to be done and no, I'm not going to convince myself that it'll all be fixed with the release of the Mueller report. I say this because we've spent two years hearing how the Mueller Report would be the game changer we needed it to be. Well, yeah, I guess so far it has proven to be the game changer. Just not the way we wanted. Why should I expect the full release of the report to be any different?

(34,857 posts)C'mon. We're once again setting ourselves up for complete and total failure.
For two years, we were told it was about to Mueller Time.
Now we're being told that we just need to demand the release of the full report.
Then, when that report is finally released, and its conclusion is largely the same as Barr's summary, we'll find something else to cling to in hopes that the next reveal will be the devastating one.
I'm not buying it anymore.
I'll happily eat my words if wrong but I feel we're chasing yet another false positive pushing for the full release of the Mueller Report. Don't get me wrong, it should be released ... but anyone who really thinks it's going to be devastating is setting themselves up for disappointment.

(32,640 posts)It has spawned other investigations with evidence that it uncovered.
Yes, we looked forward to it, and it produced 34 indictments and 4 guilty pleas.

(7,006 posts)Notice most of the leadership are either silent or are Tweeting yesterday's lines on "We will get the Mueller Report" (to which we ask how so if Trump's AG Barr Blocks It to the Supreme Court which leans 5-4 in Trump's and Barr's Favor).
There were a lot of eggs placed in the wrong basket. Now, its been made worst in the past two weeks by the Leadership in the US House Nancy Pelosi taking IMPEACHMENT OFF THE TABLE before anything, even this BS Barr Summary, was released. Between that and Barr's BS Summary, its not about what is wanted as it is about what the marketing and most of the public believes.
Taking your last real card OFF THE TABLE before the other side has played their card was NOT SMART. The only hope to save face is to IMPEACH ANYWAY knowing the report likely will not see the light of day anytime soon --- on what is known. Then call Trump the Criminal he is and put the ball in the Senate court. When they don't remove him (which they won't) paint the GOP as Criminals who support a Criminal with an Out of Control Government who is hell bend on Destroying America's Democracy.
This above is the only Card that is left to play but....it is doubtful it will be played which means Trump until 2024 and that is a tragedy.

(18,272 posts)It's true that we probably lost the PR battle of Trump colluding with the Russians. But there's still the racism and general corruption that Democrats can use.

(94,261 posts)...the FBI didn't remove Nixon from office, Congress forced him out AFTER testimony by Dean, AFTER the FBI report was completed.
There are myriad questions still left unanswered by the Barr summary to Congress. There are questions which may not rise to actual criminality, but could go to the very heart of ethics and propriety of the office. If we're not willing to fight for those, we might as well just stop participating in politics.
This is a surrender post, basically. I'm not standing with such nonsense.
Calling for people to look away now is essentially the aim of the Barr memo. Stop pushing their propaganda. If you can't handle staying firm through their smoke and denials, you're not cut out for this effort.

(67,782 posts)...about hush money (not exact quote), "we can get it". When Barry Goldwater heard that he and other republican Senators and representatives went to see Nixon to tell him it was over, his support in both Houses was all but gone.. The next night Nixon resigned.

(67,782 posts)....is that they're all saying Mueller's work is over. That's not true, he still has open subpoenas and court proceedings going on. Just this morning the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal by a company that was subpoenaed by Mueller and was ordered to respond by a lower court:

This isn't even close to being over. Mueller is still conducting interviews (Rick Gates, in particular) and there still are sealed indictments out there.
