Donald Trump has a plan to win re-election with just 45 percent of the vote

And that’s why, as Axios reports, they are planning to hold on to the minority of voters who support the president while working overtime to launch a scorched-Earth campaign against the eventual Democratic nominee.

“The GOP]is going to make whoever the nominee is radioactive well before they get the nomination,” one former Trump campaign aide explained. “That’s Trump’s strategy. Stay at 45-46 percent [in the polls] and just make the other guy radioactive.”

Given Trump’s own unpopularity, the campaign reasons, the only way to get him back into the White House will be to convince swing voters that the Democratic nominee will pack the Supreme Court, end the Electoral College, and grant reparations to black Americans.

Throughout his first term, Trump has consistently posted lower approval ratings than any of his predecessors. FiveThirtyEight’s average of public opinion polls at the moment gives Trump an approval rating of just under 42 percent with a disapproval rating of 53 percent.

Laundered Russian money could even finance the campaign.

Moderate success by Schultz could derail a Democratic nominee, handing Trump the second term.

- in addition to the steady stream of lies by Trump et al on the "Russia thing" - that to me is the most damning and plainly visible evidence of his guilt.

(I'm assuming that the 120 million dollars given by the Obama administration to the State Department for international cybersecurity still remains unused, yes? not to mention zero effort and zero dollars to protect the integrity of our electoral process domestically)

he won't have 45 percent, he will be lucky to hang on to the 30 percent of the losers who follow him unconditionally because he is a racist. We can beat him, it will take all of us but we can beat him.

Maybe 30% which represents his effed up base tho. The so called 15% are made up by the foreign investors.

All Democrats will be radioactive, regardless of their personal characteristics. Only a good media strategy with a likable candidate can survive

Buttigieg has the best media strategy. He talks up front about his obvious weaknesses and defuses them. He says up front that he wants to make the Supreme Court nonpartisan and explains how he will do it. That means Trump will have to defend biased judges. Good luck with that.

voters off the Democratic nominee than 2016. That's not going to happen.

The last GOP nominee to get than 46% of the vote was McCain and he got slaughtered in the GE.

As for Russia, their influence proved minimal in 2018. Yes, they'll come on stronger in 2020, but they won't be as effective. The Russian/MAGA bots have been exposed.

There won't be any bullshit 11th hour Comey bombs hindering our candidate this time either. Trump will need far more than 45% of the vote to win.

Last time too many people got caught up in our own primary and we formed a circular firing squad. I don't think we'll make the same mistake this time. I think we can beat him easily if we all step up and vote for our nominee. Any Democrat who's running right now is far better than Trump. Even not having a president for four years would be better than Trump. The only way Trump can 'make America great again' is if he simply drops dead.
