NEW YORK (AP) Rachel Maddow isnt backing away from her coverage of President Donald Trump and any connection to Russias involvement in trying to influence the 2016 presidential campaign. The question is how much her fans want to listen.
Maddows audience has dipped on her two days back on the air since Attorney General William Barr reported that special counsel Robert Mueller had found no collusion between Trump and Russias efforts. Her audience of 2.5 million on Monday was 19 percent below her average this year, and it went down further to 2.3 million on Tuesday, the Nielsen company said.
Meanwhile, her head-to-head competitor on Fox News Channel, Sean Hannity, saw his audience soar on Monday to 4 million viewers, a 32 percent increase from his average. It slipped to 3.57 million on Tuesday. One of Trumps most prominent media fans, Hannity was to interview the president on Wednesdays show.
Hannity and Maddow have run neck-and-neck atop the cable news ratings this year, with Maddow having the slight edge.

At least Maddow has 15 questions based on journalistic principles what does Hannity have .......................... not much

(1,975 posts)Until the full Mueller report is leaked/released, I'm on a cable news blackout. I even deleted the 5 major news channels from my cable box, (I kinda screwed up though, as I forgot the pin # to bring them back).
I figure that there is no reason to work myself into a lather until the full report is released as I dont trust any 'talking head' from not talking outta there ass as they have been doing for the last 2 yeard.

(3,344 posts)It would be expected that Sunday's news would do this. But Trump has already fallen down with the health care decision.
And the news has changed to "Why are Republicans hiding the Mueller report?"

(278 posts)days off from the news and anything related to Trump. I know I couldn't stand seeing the Trump gloating and spin so I've been watching HGTV for the last few days. Just put CNN/MSNBC back on today. Needed the escape for a little bit of time.

Screw Barr and forget impeachment. We have to put Trump and his minions out of office in November 2020 and take the Senate back too.
I will not vote for any Dem who doesnt commit to prosecuting Trump after he leaves office. Sauce for the goose . . . Lock the dumbfuck up.

Just dont want to hear any talking heads opine about 45 right now. My health has taken a hit by being so invested in the Russia collusion narrative, only to see it buried (for now) in yet another shitty right-wing gambit.
I turn 70 next month. Maybe Ill live another 10-20 years, who knows? But right now, I need some goddamned space between me and the total crap-fest that is America.

(5,810 posts)I watched Rachel last night because I had been out of town and missed most of the angst over the weekend. Just caught up briefly. But Im bummed and disheartened. Ive invested a sh*t ton of time and money in books and watching mostly MSNBC trying to understand what has been happening since tRump blasted his way into politics. I felt like we were on the verge of a massive scandal and tRump would be impeached or indicted and convicted. I counted on things working out against him. (I know. I know. The fat lady has not sung.) It felt like such a let down that I just had to take a break from all of it. I do check in here just to make sure nothing big has happened like tRumpolini had a massive stroke and dropped dead at Bedminster on the first tee.
Im not abandoning any of the MSNBC regulars but I had to let them spin and flap their gums without having to hear it. I needed a break. Plus, it just hurts too much to see tRump gloat and declare victory. I know he is still guilty as hell, but it is heartbreaking to see him claim he was exonerated. Just sickening. Ill be better in a few days. Meanwhile, the peace and quiet is nice.

(22,976 posts)I foolishly had a (mistaken) impression of Robert Mueller, that he was a Dudley Do-Right type, someone who was going to adhere to the letter of the law, and really lower the boom on all the blatant actions on full display for two years.
But this round ended not with a bang, but a whimper. (Apologies to T.S. Elliot)
I read enough about Trumps gloating, and yes, it is sick-making. If the law cannot stop this monster, who/what can? There are no good answers to that. Which I why I have to step away a bit.

(5,810 posts)and your own physical and mental health. After having invested far too many hours on the tRump nightmare, I am regretting all the things I could have and should have been doing. I can always come here for a few minutes (not hours) and get caught up. So I hope I have learned a lesson here and wont get caught up in that mess again. Being informed is one thing. Enmeshed is another.
P.S. Happy 70th birthday, in advance. I turned 70 last Nov. and my husband did in Jan.

Its a significant number of years, no question. Sobering in one sense, liberating in another.
Thanks for the good wishes, much appreciated. All best to you

(46,301 posts)What sells more, the National Enquirer or US News And World Report?
So even IF Hannity gets better ratings, his show is still worthless.
Rachel herself, back when Bill O'Reilly was still on Fox and bragging about his ratings, showed two cable TV shows that got better ratings than O'Reilly, a show abut a guy who still pans for gold, and a panel show about one of the "Walking Dead" shows.

(1,588 posts)You will not see people going to the polls in 2020. They know they are beaten. They thoroughly trounced the Republicans and took back the House in 2018 for what? For this? For the Republicans to police themselves? Foe Bill Barr to declare his boss innocent of everything? For the White House to thumb their nose at requests for information from Democrats? To see the the media like CNN totally fall in line with Bill Barr's summary, knowing what he did in Iran/Contra. If tRump can keep from screwing up the economy for another year and a half, I think he can win again because people won't vote.
The people need a victory. You can only get up so many times after continually being knocked down.

(54,302 posts)On days when I get home from work, I'm lucky if I make it home by 8 PM. Maybe more people who favor Rachel's show work for a living, and maybe more people who have nothing to do except sit around seethe in anger watch Hannity?

(9,457 posts)month. That needs to change immediately. Also, Rachel has the demographic. Fox news viewers are 100 years old so the advertisers don't really care about them

I guess I am waiting for the full report to be broken.
I watch Rachel, but tend to fall asleep pretty soon after I tune her in. Sometimes I make it to Lawrence.
I admit to being depressed...but I am not hopeless...just creating an emotion-free pause, I guess.
I still spend my time here, rather than other forums which used to be my home. This is it, now. I live here, for better or worse.
