The poster who went nuts on cable news

The poster yesterday who came in with guns blazing that 7/8 of cable news was mind bending propaganda, was right. I agree with him. His approach is what I disagree with, either believe him or you support the enemy is a bad approach.

Looking at the 3 cable news networks a bit more calmly, I can see right wing propaganda that permeates all 3 networks.

The green new deal is not taken seriously by 7/8 of cable news.
Medicare for all or some other kind of insurance that covers everyone is not taken seriously by 7/8 of cable news.
Democrats must not overreach investigating Trump is the narrative for 7/8 of cable news.
Democrats must have a concrete platform other that just being anti-Trump while it is ok for Republicans to run for office without a platform is the talking point for 7/8 of cable news.
Impeachment is a bridge too far is the narrative for 9/10 of cable news.

The poster yesterday was spot on about cable news, he just tried to force his point down our throats.

I have been saying for a long time that Democrats have a tougher row to hoe than Republicans because Republicans own the M$M and control the messages.

other than just being anti-Trump" is really wearing thin right about now. I don't recall the MSM in 2016 saying the republicans need more than "Hillary's emails" to win. I can't remember any serious policy discussions on the right and the media pretty much ignored the Democrats who DID talk about policy.

Democrats are always held to a much higher standard than republicans, as if republicans get some kind of handicap.

and some of the people responding should have understood that given the news lately. And poster was right about the right-wing bias on cable news.

Television news is worthless. I think it appeals to the more primitive parts of the human mind, parts that can't discern what is seen on television from what is seen in real life.

My wife and I don't watch any traditional television -- no cable, no satellite, no broadcast.

Our television plays DVDs and Netflix. That's all it does.

Too bad the original post was self-deleted but it's not hard to guess what it said.

I'm as intolerant of the commercials as I am programming.

Normally I probably wouldn't have made it that far either, lol. Not sure why it caught my eye.

their fascist propaganda network. M$M is our only choice so I usually go with the prime time line up on MSNBC of Chris Hayes, Rachel and Lawrence who generally do fairly represent what I believe to be true. Most of my frustration with M$M occurs on CNN (frankly, all day long) and on MSNBC before 8 PM EST, and I DVR from 8-11 PM shows to avoid the endless advertising (and sometimes redundancy). Before 8 PM I just hear too much legitimizing of not only what we know to be right wing lies, but also the right wing's misrepresentation of our own party's agenda, which is what I find really annoying about M$M programming.

"Liberal network" cable news would still suffer the same inherent problems as all television news.

Television is the worst possible medium for presenting news.

T.V. news has to be flashy or emotionally charged to hold viewers interest, otherwise it's just too damned slow.

If it's slow it won't get viewers and sponsors, whether it's commercial or PBS type news.

Sadly, the sponsors with the biggest wallets in our kleptocracy tend to be rotten.

what of the millions of people who don't and get their entire perspective through what they see on television? Their choices are M$M and Fascist News Channel. I would like to see a liberal news network to offset Fascist News Network. The sponsorship is a reason we don't have a liberal news network. If there was a liberal news network with as large of a viewership as Fascist News Network, CNN and MSNBC would lose devastating market share.

That's not news to anyone.

As for that thread, telling DUers that they're poisoning their brains and blaming them for the downfall of society because some of them watch cable news is misguided, at best. As I noted in the thread, the OP was just picking a fight and wasn't happy when other posters responded in kind.

I havent watched for over 16 years now.

Rachel Maddow is like a sacred cow around here. God help DU if her show is on a break there will be 3 “where is she?” threads each night she aint on.

I ask my self, and my self only: what has RM done to meaningfully or helpfully commit to the public welfare? Has she or anything she said on her TV show every made a significant difference?

Because out here where I dont have a remote control stuck to my hand, I aint seen where she has done jackshit to help our country

I argue with myself and myself only: shoot, a grade school teacher has much more significance than a teevee talking head

And the point, or the counterpoint is thus:
We have been stricken with a TV reality show president whom is also obsessed with the idiot box and the viewers of a certain age who get their cues from the idiot box. Because watching too much TV makes one a shallow-thinking idiot in my opinion

Did Obama take any policy views from TV?

Hannity and Dobbs are setting policy. A travesty of democracy

I don’t watch cable news, or any other kind of news, don’t watch Maddow, or Meet the Press. Don’t listen to talk radio or podcasts. I read and verify information

However I don’t feel qualified to scold people.

reframe it for our own purpose. Just keep challenging everything the GOP-RW-fanatics like Trump say. Keep hammering away at their lies. People are paying attention eventhough they don't speak up. Don't allow his rallies to shake your faith the Democrats will be out in numbers unseen before. Remember 2018 and that was after many, many crazed rallies.
