Of course, it is just 43 seconds. But the way it is portrayed, it is a vicious attack that in some ways creates violence.
Trump, as President of the United States, has attacked a member of Congress using this video. It crosses every single reasonable line of decency. Trump has hurt himself more than he knows.. This could do it. Hard to believe that anyone would use this as an attack. Trump created this, it, and is an awful mistake on his part. Trump will not apologize. It steps over the edge of decency, and guess what? Everyone knows it. Because everyone knows it, and everyone knows the intent of this, Trump has done it to himself.

(38,439 posts)This attack is illegal and unethical. It will become the centerpiece of the impeachment of Trump. He doesn't know it, but Trump has made a mistake unlike any other. He has a very short time to apologize, maybe the rest of today, but he won't. He will be told to apologize, but he won't. Donald Trump doesn't have a clue.

(5,403 posts)This asshole has crossed so many lines that would have meant the swift and certain downfall of anyone else.
It says so much about the mental state of his base that they support this vile cretin, and about the complicity of congress that they do nothing. Yes, I'm including Democrats as well; they (we) should be raising all holy hell after what has gone down this week, and are just sitting up there with their thumbs up their asses.

(38,439 posts)...Republican members of Congress will be forced to comment on this mistake. And I believe that some Republicans will indeed stand up and strongly criticize President Trump.. This is wrong. And it is very easy to see that this is wrong. Yes, 25 -30 percent will think otherwise, but the great majority of people in this country know that it is wrong.
...It won't be easy for Republicans to stand up to Trump on this. But Trump has defined this 43 second video as an attack on a member of Congress. Many Republicans will indeed stand up to this. Why would they do that? This 43 second video steps over that line of decency that no one steps over. It is clear, and it is simple. We all know this is wrong. It is the major mistake that a leader does not make.
Why? ... 9/11 is off limits..43 seconds of vicious off limits attacks on a sitting member of the House of Representatives. The rest of the United States knows, but Trump doesn't know. Most Republicans know, and many will stand up in my opinion and condemn Trump for this video. Again, Trump has stepped over a line of decency. This is it. He doesn't need to do anything else. And....This is a clear impeachable offense. It is a vicious attack that steps over the line. And that will be the discussion for a long time... Not about passing this law or that law. Not about Russia or the funds for the military.. But whether or not this 43 seconds steps across the line of legal discussion right now in the U.S.A. by the President of the United States.

(4,066 posts)Trump's base doesn't give a shit if what he says is true or not. His hating on Muslims is a plus for them. It makes him MORE popular with them.
The Republicans in Congress are too scared of his base to say anything or they are too scared of their Russian connections coming out.
Trump got elected because of vicious attacks. It's why he keeps on making them.

(6,262 posts)There will always be another Barr, another McConnell, and that damnable 30%. I am beginning to wonder that even if he loses in 2020 that he will be stopped from continuing to destroy the USA via a media megaphone, raking in the bucks and inciting mayhem in our streets. Yes, he is that sick and evil with a "wall" of supporters and enablers around him protecting him from the destruction he so deserves.
So sadly this latest incident will not matter a bit.

The Repugs, the MSM and some Dems will normalize this as they have normalized everything Trump has done up till now. Guess what - he's already planning something even more controversial to shock us.
I'd like to think this situation will be different - but we've had two years of the normalization of Trump's antics. I'm thinking he'll survive this too.
By the Sunday shows - the circling of the wagons around Trump will commence.

(12,344 posts)You think there is line he will cross that his party will not follow him? There is no such line. There never will be, so stop waiting for one.
Look at what theyve gotten away with so far. Youre 100% correct, they will not stop. Every day brings more chaos and rage. With every judgeship filled, with every executive order signed, a piece of the U.S. is destroyed. Its as if Trumpism were a cancer gnawing away at the life of our democracy, while sane folks are cranking like mad to find a cure. The stakes couldnt be higher.

(22,976 posts)In fact, Trumpists somehow believe that their cult-figurehead is a patriotic-liberty-loving-Christian-white-supremacist who directs their paranoid, xenophobic rage against POC, LGBQT people, Muslims, women, Democrats and progressives all referred to in RW circles as communist baby-murdering terrorists, or something like it.
45s hatred, anger and continual attacks on Democrats & progressives will be heard daily, from now until the the day he passes away. We can vote him out of office, but that wont stop him from doing his god-awful, nazi-clown-show rallies.

(7 posts)This is how red meat is served. Trump comes from a criminal background as the real estate (building & development) market in NYC is cut throat. You do not survive if you do not play with the mob. Henceforth, Trump's usage of mobsteresk speak. I find it almost humorous that his wife picked cyber bullying when Trump is the poster boy of that and in person. He is unapologetic which is a sign of malignant narcissism. In short, he is dangerous; but the GOP in congress are worse as they seem to be impotent to his terrorizing around the globe.

(25,111 posts)Semi-sane Republicans are worried about the 2020 elections even though they have the media, and some states, and foreign countries, the repeat of 2016 (which was definitely stolen) may not work this time around.
To be honest, even the approval polls numbers are inflated and t-rump is probably polling at, no more than 30%, if that.
The economy is going downward, the confidence in the government is much lower.
The Mueller report have convinced a majority of Americans that t-rump is guilty because Barr and the Republicans are hiding it. Same with the taxes.
Overall, the American people do not feel safe, neither economically and security.
T-rump has and still is calling for his base to rise, violently if need be. He would rather see the USA burn down than give up his power and money.
The Republican party allowed this, and they need to work the Democrats to stop it.

Oh, I will be calling my US Senators, and also my Representative (unfortunately a member of the 'freedom caucus,'), as should every American.
Because in the end we must a) pressure those few Republicans left that remember how to put country before party into doing that, and b) paste the GOP so totally in 2020 that it dies as a party.

But that would have to be something like stripping naked at a rally and throwing poop at the audience or buggering a Cub Scout on the White House lawn on live TV. Inciting violence against a Democratic House member is just another day at the office.

(7,447 posts)you mean he continues to build a pool of voters who might have voted for him who now won't while hardening the resolve of those opposed to him to turn out in 2020? Then, yes.
The reality is Trump has been extremely fortunate to preside during a time of relative economic success. Any other President in his position would be a ten point favorite to be re-elected.
He's having to actively work to put his re-election in jeopardy.
