Noreiega & Bush & Barr & Trump & Assange

Some thirty years ago now, there was a scandal-ridden administration here, with an affable senile figurehead distracting us all from a gang of sleazy wankers who had clever ideas like trading missiles to Iran for reasons that weren't ever completely clear to ordinary people whose heads were screwed on more-or-less straight

That administration started to look like it was going down in glorious blazing technicolor flames, due to the strange ideas of its political theoreticians, who had a history of supporting various racists in the cone of Africa and various death squads in the Americas and various drug-smugglers as a fund-raising schemes for their illegal war-mongering hobbies

So it was with a great sigh of relief that they got their CIA guy Poppy elected in 88, because Poppy seems to have listened listened to advice from a certain Barr, who encouraged a big round of pardons before any of the people who could blab about Poppy did blab

There was still the problem of a Noriega dude, who happened to have been involved in some of that CIA drug-smuggling but was now thinking about telling the world his story, and Barr happily encouraged Poppy to invade Panama and grab Noriega and lock him up, so Poppy did that and lived happily ever after and even got to see his son get to help his other son stop the vote counting in Florida and become President himself

There's an old saying that history does repeat itself, and what first appeared as a tragedy comes back around as a farce, and it's a good saying, that helps us be less astonished, for example, when the GOP's attempt to jam Bork the Cox-sacker onto the Supreme Court later re-appears as the GOP's determined attempt to jam "Ask me about cigar sex" Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court

So now that another administration has started to look like it might be going down in glorious blazing technicolor flames, we should not be amazed that Barr has come back, wearing a bit more clown make-up than really seems necessary, writing a brief on how to clear Trump before getting himself appointed to a position from which he can try to manage the cover-up of the Russian farce

But there was still the problem of that blabby crackpot in a London embassy, namely, the right-wing libertarian Assange, who was happy to help the GOP destroy Clinton's reputation and campaign, but who had a bit too much of the loose cannon mentality and might prove too inclined to flap his gums -- a problem which (however) now appears might be addressed by the "fix him the way we fixed Noriega" method, that is, by arresting him and putting him on ice for a while

but maybe it was because he wanted Hussein, since Hussein could implicate Poppy and Rumsfeld?

It's been hard to take, the 'and we thought Bush was bad'... He was genuinely bad. Republicans have been depraved for decades, they've just recently stopped pretending to uphold democratic principles.

Needed the full Barr refresher.

I didn't realize he was so deeply involved in Iran/Contra and I always wondered why that was the moment the dragged Noriega off to prison. Good work

Julian Assange should be thanking his lucky stars he isn't living in Saudi Arabia.

in the shadows. Cheney is whispering to Bolton and Bolton is feeding Pompeo. and they are talking Iran. Full circle.

Edit to add.
it wasn't until Noriega started wanting a bigger slice of the cocaine profit that Poppy decided to silence him. Barry seal also.
