With the revelation of Burr playing Nunes on the Senate side, impeachment is off the table...

There are no honorable Republicans. It doesn't matter what tRump does. There is no way the Republicans will vote to impeach tRump or even take the impeachment proceedings seriously. They will make a farce out of the proceedings just as they are making out of all the hearings. These Republicans have no shame. tRump can shoot someone on 5th Avenue and they will still support him.

I've been all for impeachment until now. But since seeing in the Mueller report that Burr was a back channel to the White House and the Senate Intelligence Committee, with all the show of bipartisanship between Burr and Warner, I'm now against it. Burr has no honor.

The only thing that will take tRump down before the elections is for someone to find the pee tapes.

1. I think what many miss on impeachment is that it is not merely a tool to remove a President...

It is likewise the most important tool to 1. investigate a President's fitness for office, whether criminally liable or NOT and 2. to inform the public in a way that can not be ignored.

Even if Congress votes for impeachment and somehow the Senate either refuses to take it seriously (I don't think they have any ability to REFUSE to even take it up) OR does so but votes against removal, the public education prior to the election of 2020 would be critically important and Fox news will not be able to preempt all from hearing the truth.

Lastly, it leaves a historical record and makes the case that further legislative reforms to Presidential powers will be required to prevent this from happening again.

5. I had thought that way before the report because I thought there might be some decent Republicans...

I just couldn't imagine watching impeachment proceedings with these asshole Republicans in office now though. It makes me sick to watch them. I remember watching the Watergate hearings, and at least they acted like they respected their office. These people today have no self respect. Gaetz, Meadows, Jordan... they don't care what they say. They make a mockery of the proceedings and go off on tangents that have nothing to do with what's going on just to cause chaos. They attack witnesses instead of trying to find facts. It's so maddening. People would just get fed up. They wouldn't even care.

11. Meadows, Gym-Boy Jordan and Nunes have tried but failed in hearings since Dems took over...

They simply looked ridiculous. The other R's were so NOT up to the effort they failed to even attend a lot of these hearings or left after Meadows or Jordan tried and failed to derail the hearings.

So, no.. Even if it never went past days or weeks of televised Impeachment hearings and the public saw the total inability of the R's to defend what has been documented on the record--to a Senate vote, the record would be made. The public would see the truth and ONLY those who refuse to believe facts at all (which is MOST but not ALL of Trump's supporters) would remain unphased.

Even if you want to look at it from a purely tactical advantage, the evidence presented 24/7 from House Impeachment hearings on tv and from the pundits at night prior to 2020 would be devastating. I like to think I hold a higher ground than that to justify impeachment hearings, but pragmatically, it is likely true. This isn't Clinton lying about consensual sexual acts. This is lying about Russian involvement in delivering the LAST election and the corrupt nature of our current administration.

12. There is no way an impeached President can win reelection

That alone is enough reason to do it.

6. Impeachment is the right thing to do. If the Senate will not convict, so be it.

9. They don't run things in the House, so Pelosi can shut them down.

10. The other ongoing investigations could also impact what happens in the Senate. In effect, depending

on what they find and the timing of their findings being made public, there could be some movement in the Senate. That is a bit of wishful thinking, but not totally out of the question. I think there are still a lot of shoes to drop.
