I would rather have the whole Republican Party aboard the SS Trump when it goes down.

The last thing we need going into 2020 is a House impeachment that results in Trump's acquittal in the Senate. He really could claim he was exonerated then, and he really would do so, loudly. Is there anyone who doubts that the Republican Senate would be happy to "officially exonerate" Trump? They would be exonerating themselves and the whole Republican Party. Of course they would acquit Trump. They would love that.

I'm for a long, slow, make-everyone-want-impeachment investigation. I want the rest of the Republican Party to stay on board the SS Trump until it's too late.

1. If we can blame the republican senate for the house not impeaching Trump

then we can impeach Trump and blame republicans for him him not being convicted in 2020. That's how we take as many republicans down with Trump as possible.

...then, yes, make sure they know the only thing standing in the way of Trump's deserved removal from office is Senate Republicans.

but I also think that there's a large percentage of voters who would welcome impeachment proceedings
since tRump/Republicon corruption is widely known. Looks kinda like damned if we do and damned if we don't so we might as well fall back to doing the right thing.

We need to tie the Republican Party to Trump at every opportunity. He's a disgrace, and it's their fault. Maybe they will turn on him. Even if they do, he's their fault.

7. Ask Bill Clinton how "exonerated" he felt by his "win" in the Senate.

He will always have a foonote to his presidency noting he was impeached, even if it was for lying about a consensual affair.

Trump cooperated with a foreign adversary attacking our democracy to get him elected, then obstructed the investigation of that attack. If we are not on record for impeaching him for that, history will not treat us kindly. And it shouldn't. If we don't stand for the rule of law, if we won't even follow the roadmap Mueller gave us on obstruction charges, it will kill Dem turnout and debase Dem credibility.

But this is not about politics. This is about our country. We have a Constitutional duty to impeach under these circumstances.

9. The duty is to defend the Constitution

That means defending it against Trump and the Republican Party together. Trump isn't the only one attacking the Constitution. The Republican Party is abetting him.

There's no specific duty about which mechanisms have to be used at which time to defend the Constitution. The voters will impeach the Republican Party if we handle it like we should. Maybe we impeach Trump too, once it becomes completely obvious he's going down. Then the voters and the House would be doing their duty.

10. What are you saying? No impeachment? Leave it up the voters?

Then we're abetting Trump too, just like the Republicans. Fuck that. We have to stand for something, or else we won't like what the voters decide.

It is Congress' constitutional duty. That is how you defend the Constitution.

It tells me that most of the Evangelical "Holier than thou" attitude is as phony as I thought. Anyone finding comfort in a ideology that supports this type of leadership is delusional.

Those that condone and support this type of government are jeopardizing our way of life in the US. The GOP, whether knowingly or doing so out of party loyalty are threatening our Democracy.

Imagine what can/will happen if/when we have a real national emergency with these type of folks running the show. Just pray (and I'm not religious) that we can survive these lunatics for another 18 months.

If marching in the streets is what it takes I think the time is fast approaching.

We can impeach Trump but if the vote in the Senate does not oust him - you know he will be running his mouth off that he beat the Dems, won and is still in office. If that happens before the 2020 election - God knows how that would be interpreted by the voters.

Someone made the comment about Clinton's impeachment. He beat the rap, still has the stigma of impeachment on his legacy and did not take bows for beating the rap. I'm sure it hurt his pride.

Trump is not Clinton. Trump will call it a win and use that to campaign for re-election. It's Trump being Trump. Look what he posted yesterday with the Game Over pic ala Thrones as example.

The Dems need to follow thru with all these committee investigations. Parade the whole Trump administration in front of them. Build up as much supportive info to support the Mueller Report. They need to keep it such that they are doing the work of oversight that is the role of Congress.

As they build up a strong case against Trump that would even be hard for Repugs to overlook - it would force the Repugs into supporting impeachment. Then it would be time to press the impeachment button.

I'm just worried that if that button is pushed too soon - it will culminate before the 2020 election - and if Trump survives - the retaking the WH becomes harder to pull off.

We don't want to give the American People the impression that we're conducting a witch hunt. The committee investgations need to be conducted as fair as possible.

If we can get thru that - push the impeachment button - then we catch the witch along with his coven.
