Facebook stored passwords for hundreds of millions of its Facebook users and millions of Instagram

Facebook perfects the art of the news dump

San Francisco (CNN Business)On the Thursday before a major holiday weekend, and an hour before the much-anticipated Mueller report was released to the public, Facebook updated a month-old blog post titled "Keeping Passwords Secure" with a few lines of italicized text.

"Since this post was published, we discovered additional logs of Instagram passwords being stored in a readable format. We now estimate that this issue impacted millions of Instagram users," says the update.

The original post revealed Facebook stored passwords for hundreds of millions of its Facebook users and "tens of thousands" of Instagram users as plain text in a database that could be accessed by its staff.

that caused me to delete my FB account.

Since then, I created a Twitter account. I'm a lurker there, not a poster. If you follow the right people, it doesnt seem too bad. And stay away frm Twitter wars.

Just to be clear: I detest Facebook for many reasons and don’t use it. But among the faithful, the addiction is strong. Sure, some will get alarmed and quit. Many more will shrug and keep mainlining FB.

I sincerely hope I’m proven wrong.
