It might be better for Trump to be impeached than not.

If he were impeached, Pence would certainly pardon him for all offenses.

If he was not impeached and lost in 2020 he would then be prosecuted and imprisoned for his crimes because the Democratic president would not pardon him.

His safest bet would be to make a deal with Pence that he steps down and then would be pardoned.

He can be pardoned on Federal offenses. He cannot be pardoned for state offenses. He's in his mid-seventies, and despite what his personal physician may say, his health is not great. If he went to prison, he would likely die there.

Investigate the hell out of him. Show every single criminal act that he has done. Make the Republicans own Trump. Play out the clock over the next eighteen months. Make the GOP beg for the Democrats to impeach Trump because the alternative would involve having Trump as an albatross around each GOP Senator up for re-election.
