Democrats must impeach Trump, but not for the reason you think.

Democrats will start the impeachment. The republican Senate will refuse to impeach him. End of story.

So, why bother with impeachment at all?

The Democrats must try to impeach Trump precisely BECAUSE we already know that the Republicans will refuse to impeach him.

Trump has done so much shit, illegal or not, impeachable or not, he has clearly shown that he is unfit for office. His poll-numbers have never gone above 45% and just yesterday they dropped to 37%. He is unpopular.

The impeachment-hearings will be the opportunity to tie the GOP to a corrupt President.

The impeachment-hearings will force every Republican to take a clear stance on Trump:

Are you willing to publicly defend a corrupt, lying President obviously unfit for office?

Or are you against the Dear Leader who has a stranglehold on your party and whose extremist base could destroy your career on a whim?

Remember the 2014 Midterms:
The democratic candidates tried to run FOR the democratic party, while simultaneously running AGAINST Obama, because they thought that that would attract republican voters. The election was "real Republican" vs "Democrat who acts like a Republican". It was a bloodbath for the Democrats.

This is exactly the situation the Democrats can engineer for 2020 if they play the impeachment right in the media:
Force the GOP into a situation where they have to be FOR Trump to appease him and simultaneously AGAINST Trump to appease the voters.

Just as importantly... the currently most likely scenario is not “impeach in House, fail to convict in Senate”. It’s “lose impeachment vote in House, circular firing squad in 2020”

4. There is nothing like watching something play out live on TV,

This isn't about Trump's base, it's about exposing the real Trump to the world, live on TV, through testimony.

Barr is not going to release the grand jury evidence unless we impeach. Republicans will fight subpoenas in the courts until it gets close to the election and then they will use the election as an excuse. Barr is not going to just stone wall and play defense, he said he is going after the FBI and "Democrats" who carried out a witch hunt against Trump. The definition of Democrats is Hillary Clinton. Barr and Trump are going to put Hillary on the 2020 ballot. We sit back at our peril, drastic times call for drastic measures.

Barr is not going to release the grand jury evidence unless we impeach.

He likely won't release it even if we impeach. But your theory relies on the assumption that there's something damning in the grand jury testimony that Mueller left out of the report for some reason.

..going forward with it and we should NOT take it out on them at the ballot box. I know they are worried about having to deal with pence as prez at the ballot box if trumps out but i dont think trumps base is with pence. I actually think this would strengthen the dems base. Anyway we need trump out of office so we can indict his ass.

of an impeached President to this day. This must also happen to Trump who committed many more serious crimes than lying to Congress about a consensual sex affair.

He must be Impeached to set the standard for incoming Presidents AND if you believe that he could win again in 2020 he must be impeached now!

6. You can't indict his ass if Pence pardons him

Right now I favor publicly smearing and exposing his ass with investigations open to the public. Defeating him in the elections means he gets indicted the day he leaves office. Impeaching him means President Pence pardons him and he gets off scott free.

Plus the fact that even if the senate refuses to convict, we have stood up FOR the rule of law and democratc government. And there really is no way yet to know what the GOP will do once all the facts are laid bare in big red letters in the public square and all america knows and cannot turn away from it. They might decide that cutting him loose is the easiest way to save themselves. Because when it comes right down to his survival or theirs, he will probably lose; he has no loyalty to either them or this country, and they know it. They will choose to save themselves.

the Senate does not impeach, they convict and vote to remove from office.

Otherwise, I suspect that open hearings will continue whether the House decides to begin the process or not.

Your idea is one political strategy among several, I just hope that whichever one or two are employed result in getting rid of the orange menace asap.

Put them on record. Force their hand.

There is also this little piece of paper that was written years ago that says Congress has the "DUTY" to bring forward alleged wrong doings by the president. Each member of Congress, and even the Ass Himself took an "OATH" to uphold this writing.

Now imagine if you will, that our brave troops who took an OATH to protect our country, just talked and wrung their hands and worried about how it would look if they did their DUTY, instead of loyally and without question putting themselves in front of enemy bullets for us and our country.

Time for talk and hand wringing is past, imo. Time for Congress to go on record as for the country, or for the votes and their "donations"

I wrote all my Reps and Senators a letter back in July 2018 and expressed that America needs a hero right now. I am still waiting for a hero to step forward.

that Mueller worked for 2 years to uncover will stay hidden if we refuse to impeach. Barr will not comply with the subpoena to release grand jury testimony, he will fight it in the courts until it gets too close to the election and then the election will be used as an excuse.

Most of the juicy information, evidence to warrant Trump's impeachment is in the grand jury testimonies.

DU'ers are a lot more informed than the general public.

If it takes a month or two to start proceedings, the general public can be brought up to date on the reasons for impeachment (the truth, not the lies they have been told recently). Beat the drums before going to war.

Democrats need to tie the GOP to trump.

The reality is that trump epitomises everything that is a republican.

I suspect that this may be an opportunity squandered but hope remains eternal.
