Well, here goes nothing....let us stipulate that impeachment is a political (Congressional) Option

if we accept that premise, why are so many impeachment “advocates” unwilling to acknowledge that the political reality, specifically hopelessly self-protecting compromised senators -McConnel, Burr, Paul, Graham et al, is such that these sycophants would never imperil themselves by convicting drumph? Their silence in the face of the damning Mueller report speaks volumes. There is no “final straw” for these devotees. Thus while certainly morally defensible, even justifiable, impeachment by House Democrats simply carries more risk than reward. Given the misguided OLC policy, Mueller’s actions make perfect sense. So reframe presidential behavior. Rescind the OLC prohibition against indicting a criminal president. Of course drumph is a criminal. He’s an unindicted co-conspitior in at least one felony. Republicans knew the bulk of drumph’s unfitness for the Presidency from the day he entered the race and stilly slavishly support him. I awaken every day horrified by the reality that this beast is president. The only thing I find more horrifying is the specter that he will destroy this country till January 2025 because the “cult of drumph” , the senate whom alone could convict him, has no shame, no conscience, and no patriotism.

Thanks for urging us to effectively do nothing.

Rescind the OLC prohibition against indicting a criminal president.

LOL. So, forget impeachment because of the Senate and instead you ask us to *checks notes* ask the AG to rescind DOJ guidelines.

Since I've seen the poll where 80% of DUers favor impeachment, I don't think I need to spend much more time arguing for it.

The impeachment train has left the station! Choo choo!

I am certainly not encouraging us to “do ‘nothing.” I’m truly sorry if that’s what came across to you. I acknowledge that I was remiss by not including my idea of the solution. Vote him out in 2020. Support our candidates, any of whom would be immeasurably better than 4 more years of this nightmare. Remove him with the ballot. Retake the senate. Yes, then confirm an A.G. who supports eliminating an OLC decree that effectively places the President above the law. Use the ultimate political process, the ballot, to stop the madness.

Oligarchs that own them can do what they want. The House waves it responsibility to protect the people from the abuse of power. They live in fear of the poltical repercussion like those the befell the republicans who impeached Bill Clinton for lying about getting his knob polished in the oval office.

Well IMO the misdeeds of this president and the cabal that he serves were and are and an attack on the foundations of this cointry and he is a "clear and present danger". They are treasonous and criminal activates. This guy is making unchecked policy decisions regarding foreign governments. He is attacking our institutions and media. I'm not bright enough to better make this point but this situation is a text book case for why the founding father added impeachment to the Constitution back in 1787.

He, and they, are all of those things, and worse. My question remains though: if it is the inevitable reality that those very operatives and oligarchs in the Senate will never convict him, isn’t the political risk all on the Democrats? Even if the House exercises its appropriate prerogative, to what end? I understand the idea of “putting senators on the record” as supporting this lawless dotard but they already are on the record. The government shutdown vote, the billionaire tax cuts, our war in Yemen, helping destroy the pillars of justice and the courts. I think he is worse than the framers ever envisioned when they drafted the Constitution . My focus was intended to be on the one group—-the Senate—who does have the constitutional power to remove him. Vote him out.
