Someday, a Democrat will be President again, and *this* will be the bar for impeachment

“You can be impeached even if you did not commit a crime. You can be impeached to restore the honor and dignity of the Presidency.”

- Senator Lindsey Graham in 1999

If we can’t use it, then maybe we should just eliminate impeachment for the President from the Constitution.

Two presidents have been impeached by the House and neither were convicted in the Senate. I know people will jump in and say "Nixon would have been removed but he resigned before it could happen". There is almost no evidence of that and I don't believe it would have happened. Nixon was not even impeached by the House. Who knows what might have happened if he fiercely defended himself. Who knows what the Senate would have done if they actually were put on the spot by both sides.

Democrats need to be concentrating on winning states with 270 electoral votes.

The impeachment train so many are willing to jump on might mean the Democrats get derailed in 2020. Vote him out.

He knew the jig was up, if he didn't resign the whole thing would have played out. That was why they pretty much made him resign. He didn't want to be the first POTUS to be thrown out of office.

However the climate in Washington was very different then, as I'm sure you're aware. The attitude and patriotism of most elected officials (Senators and Congressmen) were very different.

We do not know what was in the mind of Nixon when he resigned. And we don't know what exactly would have happened if he aggressively fought it. I know what the conventional political wisdom is. But that is very often wrong and I suspect it would have been wrong in that case. But I do know Trump is not Nixon and would never resign. Conventional wisdom has always been wrong with Trump. I have been hearing about the imminent end of Trump in this forum and elsewhere since June, 2015. Almost four years now.

for them to get to 270 electoral votes. In 2018, Georgia was a test for every voter suppression tactic in the book. They know what works and have the tools and the power to use them in 2020. It might not be so easy to get to 270 even with a large popular vote victory. Key states are controlled by Republicans: Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, and Texas. Republicans even have control of both houses of the legislatures in more states for 2020 than they did for the states that went for tRump in the electoral college in 2016. Voter suppression is our biggest enemy.

To me this isn't just about removing Trump from power, it's about removing the GOP from power. That must be our #1 goal. That means a Democrat in the White House (not Mike Pence) & a Democratic majority in the Senate so we can kick McConnell to the curb.

when they talk about Trump not facing consequences setting a precedent for future presidents. No, pundits: Only future GOP presidents get to follow the Trump example, and you know it. So kindly say so and point out the hypocrisy EVERY SINGLE TIME!

"Donald Trump".

Because no matter what barstool republicans find indignity with, DJT did it tenfold while the GOP collectively shrugged their shoulders. What's more, they seem proud of him for his transgressions.

I think it should have been the pat response when they bristled about Al Franken's sexual gestures.

And yes, even if everyone is concerned about there not being Senate conviction.

We must hold this corrupt administration accountable. Americans must experience justice.

We need big signs to hold up in the assemblies of congress with Graham's quote. Maybe, some of our reps will too.
