Voters see President Obama as far more in touch with the problems women face, a new poll from CNN finds. On who is more in touch with women voters, Obama leads Romney 60 percent to 30 percent among likely voters. Among registered voters, Obama leads 62 percent to 27 percent.
As Romney heads to the Republican National Convention, the poll shows Obama leading when it comes to personal characteristics and relating to voters. On who is more "in touch with the problems facing middle class Americans," Obama leads 53 percent to 39 percent among likely voters and 58 percent to 33 percent among registered voters. Obama also leads on the question of who cares about "the needs of people like you" by 13 points among likely voters and 20 points among registered voters.
Romney's strengths come on questions of competence and leads Obama slightly on who would run government more effectively.

. . . we have the draft Republican Party platform, which one committee member boasted is the most conservative platform in modern history. The platform includes a human life amendment to the Constitution that would bar abortion under any circumstances, with no exception for cases of rape or incest. The committee also adopted language that could bar certain forms of contraception and even expose women seeking health advice to criminal penalties. Plus the Republican Party platform praises informed consent laws like the one in Virginia that subjected women seeking abortions to mandatory, invasive vaginal ultrasounds.

1. Romney's positions are the most radically anti-women of any candidate in a generation: He supports banning all abortions, backed a so-called "personhood" amendment that could make certain forms of birth control illegal, and says he would "get rid of" federal funding for Planned Parenthood that provides preventive services like cancer screenings for millions of women.
2. Romney would repeal Obamacare. Insurance companies would once again be allowed to run up premiums, unjustifiably deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, drop patients when they get sick, discriminate against women by charging them more for coverage than men, and spend more of your premium dollars on CEO profits and bonuses instead of your actual health care.

(6,328 posts)I knew about the ID laws but was thinking now they would have to find a way to bar women from within their own precincts and economic levels. I never thought about how a woman's name change may affect women from all neighborhoods and classes, especially young ones. So I see they're way ahead of me.

(116,464 posts)overall sample and apply it to women. The numbers for women are there, and in no case is Romney behind by only two points among women.
It has also been pointed out that likely voters samples lean Republican.
