Leader of militia detaining migrants allegedly said group trained to assassinate Soros, Clinton, Obama, complaint says
Larry Mitchell Hopkins has been described as the “commander” of the United Constitutional Patriots that has been detaining migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A leader of a New Mexico militia that has been detaining migrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border said that the group was “training to assassinate George Soros, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama,” according to an FBI agent's sworn deposition describing reports phoned into the agency's public tip line.

Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 69, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and made an initial appearance in federal court in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on the charge Monday.....much more at the link below

Mr. O’Connell, who was the host of a conservative radio talk show program in New Mexico until 2017, declined to say who was paying Mr. Hopkins’s legal fees.

Mr. Hopkins could face up to 10 years in prison if he is found guilty of the new charge. He told the judge on Monday that he suffers from various medical problems and gave his age as 70, though court records showed he was 69.

“I’m not a militia specialist,” Mr. O’Connell said when asked about the motives of Mr. Hopkins and other members of the armed group. He added, “They believe they are helping to enforce the laws of America on immigration.”

Still, pressure is building on the group from various directions. Both PayPal and GoFundMe banned accounts for the group, potentially making it harder for the militia to receive donations. And the rail transportation company Union Pacific said it believed that the group was camped on land adjacent to its property in southern New Mexico.

Here is the NYT article (written by my friend's son, Simon Romero - who is covering the crisis at the southern border for the Times.) Thank God NM is a blue state and our governor is on top of this. Santa Fe and Albuquerque will be helping Las Cruces by taking migrants.

The FBI did nothing about that claim at the time, as far as we can tell, but after the guy was arrested, the FBI used it in support of the arrest.
