1. The Democrats are going about this the right way

In order to make impeachment more than just a Pyrrhic victory, the Democrats must take a very surgical approach to shaping the narrative as they move forward. They can't just wily-nily impeach Trump and leave it to the Senate to remove him, which we know won't happen under the current circumstances. They'll need to lay the groundwork with hearings and other public exposure. And while they do that, they'll need to push the narrative away from "Why aren't the Democrats doing more/the Democrats tried to impeach and remove him but failed" toward "The Democrats did the right thing, proved to the country that Trump is unfit for the presidency and now the ball is in the Republicans' court." The next paragraph of the story will depend totally on the Republicans. It will be either 1) "thanks to the Democrats' efforts, the public called for his removal and the Republicans had no choice but to pivot and vote him out" or 2) "the Republicans ignored the public will and the good of the country and refused to remove Trump from the presidency even though it was proven that he is unfit for the office.""

This takes a little time, but the Democrats are doing it right. One step at a time.

I really hope we will all give the Democrats the space to do what they have to do. Our country's future depends on it.

2. Not impeaching has nothing to do with spine,

cannot be chalked up to a lack of sense, and is a decision wiser and more knowledgeable heads will be charged with making.
