Personal posts are a way of blowing off steam, and also sharing with our DU friends.

It's usually advised that people post threads like that in the Lounge. But sometimes they find their way into other forums.

Politics is a toxic subject these days. Sometimes people just want to come here to connect with other decent people.

11. The DU Lounge was specifically created to keep the funny content away from GD.

This currently is the third iteration of the DU-forum. It is slightly different from what it was when it was founded back during the GWB-administration.

Latest Threads has a little of everything. Instead, use the General Discussion tab and you won't critter posts there. Personally, I'd go nuts w/o the Lounge and all the kitty and dog posts.

I think there's a way to disable the Lounge so it doesn't show on your feed. Click HELP in the upper right hand corner & ask there.

on edit: It's easy. Go into the Lounge forum. Near the top is a big blue "Start a Discussion" button. To the right is a button, "Trash this Forum." Click on that & you won't see threads from the Lounge anymore.

25. Try using General Discussion as your DU Landing page.

Latest Threads and the DU Home page are not the best approach if you're looking for serious posts. Or, use Late Breaking News, or Democratic Primaries. You can decide which page opens when you go to DU.

You don't have to hide the DU Lounge, either. Just start on one of the serious pages and use its thread list as your jumping off point.

There are groups discussing pets, gardening , Netflix, weird news, cooking, and on and on.

If one looks at the General Discussion (Forum): About This Forum page, you'll see that pretty much anything goes except for posts about Israel/Palestine, religion, guns, showbiz, or sports.
