Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey called Rep. Ilhan Omar after Trumpís tweet sparked a flood of death threats

Twitter did not take down the tweet, despite Omarís request, a source said.

By Tony Romm April 25 at 5:34 PM

Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey phoned Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar on Tuesday and stood by the companyís decision to permit a tweet from President Trump that later resulted in a flood of death threats targeting the congresswoman.

The previously unreported call focused on an incendiary video that Trump shared on April 12, which depicts Omar discussing the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks interspersed with footage of the Twin Towers burning. The clip did not include the full context of Omarís remarks, which were taken from a public event on the broader issue of Islamophobia.

Omar pressed Dorsey to explain why Twitter didnít remove Trumpís tweet outright, according to a person familiar with the conversation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the call was private. Dorsey said that the presidentís tweet didnít violate the companyís rules, a second person from Twitter confirmed.

Dorsey also pointed to the fact that the tweet and video already had been viewed and shared far beyond the site, one of the sources said. But the Twitter executive did tell Omar that the tech giant needed to do a better job generally in removing hate and harassment from the site, according to the two people familiar with the call.

1. He called her in an attempt to cover his ass. Big mistake

If something happens now he is complicit in the crime as an accessory. He admits to doing nothing
To prevent or solve the problem that he was well aware of

2. It doesn't matter that it had been propagated, it should have been taken down. It was an

incitement to do violence against her.

No excuse for not taking it down

3. "the tweet didn't violate the company's rules"

That's exactly how fascist thinking leads to and makes excuses for horrific acts of cruelty. Dorsey appears to have no soul and simply no common ethical sense. Fuck Twitter. It's a cesspool promoting the very worst of human nature.

5. Im with you. Fuck the twits

Im sick and fucking tired of hearing about twitter.
Beyond tired having to put up with Trumpís tirades

Also on DU, clicking on threads that say nothing but
ďLink to tweetĒ (which I cant open at work)

My impression is that Twittless users are lazy, self-indulgent and incapable of serious thought

9. Exactly right.

None of the social media orgs do anything except chase profits. I also am offended when I see "link to tweet" in a DU op and automatically trash it.

6. good for her for demanding this

she's a freshman rep. Maybe this could be pursued at a higher level in the Democratic Party? Or to be fair, maybe it has. Has it?

11. It would seem that

we need someone in Congress to start an inquiry into Twitter & Facebook and other such sites.
Maybe with the threat of impossing rules and guidence for posts and tweets.
Something like a fact check before it gets posted and apply a signal word or symbol as to it's truthfullness.
Yeah I know "it will never happen"
