On Tuesday, Vice President Mike Pence spoke with sailors of the USS Harry S. Truman in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Pence was scheduled to tour the aircraft carrier and to meet with local business leaders about the U.S., Mexico, Canada trade agreement referred to as USMCA, according to his office.

While at the event, journalist Brendan Ponton tweeted that people were being egged on to applaud for Pence.

“Sailors being instructed to ‘clap like we’re at a strip club’ when VP arrives (not kidding)” he tweeted.

1. I can't think of anything more antithetical to a strip club than a speech by Mike Pence.

And anyhow, wouldn't young men at a strip club be hooting and yelling, "Take it off! Take it off!" I don't think they would have wanted Pence to do that.

10. Probably a dated stereotype but kind of funny because I joined back in the 90's

20+ years ago there were always strip clubs close to every Navy Base, right along with the Buy-Here-Pay-Here used car lots, pawn shops, and paycheck advance places. Many places eventually were made "off-limits" by base commanders or ship COs at many places we used to visit.
